[16:26:44] majavah: just in case it isn't already on your radar, we're going to need some config switch to have apple-search send its requests over an envoyproxy instead of directly hitting *.wikipedia.org [16:27:29] wasn't yet, good point, thanks! [16:28:17] will it go thru the caches or hit api_appservers directly? [16:29:13] just hit the api_appservers directly [16:52:30] majavah: oh, it would be good to add php-parallel-lint too [16:58:08] legoktm: sure, anything else too? [16:59:12] phan?! if it's not too hard :p [16:59:17] https://gerrit.wikimedia.org/r/c/mediawiki/services/apple-search/+/715560 [16:59:22] let me try :P [17:02:12] mw codesniffer!!!! [17:03:04] that's the one that's already done :p [17:24:42] legoktm: semi-simple, https://gerrit.wikimedia.org/r/c/mediawiki/services/apple-search/+/715566/ [17:41:40] awesome, I will look in a bit [21:12:45] hey all. question 4 u. On the Meitei language wiki we cannot see the fonts (all we get are boxes and boxes with ? in them). I have verified this with another user. What is happening is a user from that wiki is putting articles on simple and including the translations. Here is their home page https://mni.wikipedia.org/wiki/%EA%AF%83%EA%AF%94%EA%AF%A8%EA%AF%91%EA%AF%A3%EA%AF%8F%EA%AF%95_%EA%AF%82%EA%AF%83%EA%AF%A5%EA%AF%8F [21:12:59] what can be done to fix this? [21:13:46] can you link to a page that has broken fonts? [21:21:19] This happens when you're using a font that doesn't support that funny script [21:22:46] I can view this page, PotsdamLamb [21:22:57] not that I can understand a word [21:23:11] but I can view the characters [21:23:20] you should probably install a font with support for that script [21:23:22] I can't view the characters [21:24:04] that page links to https://www.unicode.org/L2/L2000/00259-MeeteiMayek.pdf [21:24:14] which links to some fonts [21:25:14] I have the font installed locally and it does not work. One of our Admins (Ferien) also has the same issue and he is in Europe [21:25:40] @Platonides - https://mni.wikipedia.org/ [21:26:46] https://archivos.wikimedia.es/wikimedia/es/mniwiki_2021-08-30%20at%2021.24.25.png [21:27:10] that's how I see the page [21:28:27] So one of our admins @Ferien just joined too. Is this something that needs to be installed wiki wide so all users are able to view it? I can see a lot of other sites in other languages [21:29:08] Platonides: can you inspect any text element with the browser and tell us what font are you using? [21:32:07] the front page's title is ꯃꯔꯨꯑꯣꯏꯕ ꯂꯃꯥꯏ [21:32:09] PotsdamLamb: this is a quite uncommon script [21:32:13] hello Ferien [21:32:18] The linked PDF 00259-MeeteiMayek.pdf is a "web page printed to PDF". The links are not clickable... [21:32:23] Vulpix: I can try [21:32:36] although I don't know font which is actually being used to render them [21:32:38] it just appears as boxes for me, but does it appear as Meitei script for others? [21:32:44] if a font doesn't contain the needed glyphs [21:32:52] see on what ferien just po sted i see boxes with x's in them [21:32:58] afaik they will be picked from another installed font which does [21:33:06] I can see it as well [21:33:38] thus I have a proper font installed locally [21:33:46] On Firefox there's a "Typography" tab where it displays the font chosen by the browser to render text [21:33:49] if it had been automatically downloaded as a web font [21:34:02] I wouldn't have been able to view it on the chat [21:34:18] where's that tab? [21:34:37] I think hI have never seen it [21:34:55] https://snipboard.io/hPXbZe.jpg [21:35:41] Inspecting an element, I only see a font-family: sans-serif that could be relevant [21:36:08] No, that's the CSS rule, not the actual font used [21:36:10] on Firefox it comes up no problems, but I use chrome [21:37:16] FreeSans [21:37:16] FreeSans [21:37:16] Noto Sans Meetei Mayek [21:37:17] Noto Sans Meetei Mayek Regular [21:37:38] * Platonides tries with chromium [21:37:50] I've just switched to my android mobile and I can see the title I wrote earlier in Meitei script, on my IRC app. In case that helps anyone.. [21:38:18] chromium works for me as well [21:39:06] I have installed the font /usr/share/fonts/truetype/noto/NotoSansMeeteiMayek-Regular.ttf [21:39:14] from the package fonts-noto-core
