[17:31:18] If I want to add some CSS and JS to a skin, I can do this by placing them in the resources folder and making some adjustments to the skin.json, right? I do also need them to only be loaded conditionally (namely for logged out users and not on the login page). Is it maybe easier to load them with something like $out->addStyle()? [17:31:32] (and $out->addScript() of course) [17:31:52] You can potentially just do it with site js... [17:32:25] You know what? That's probably the best idea lol [17:33:11] going along with the "don't hack core" :P [17:33:23] Obviously if you're maintaining the skin etc etc, sure you could do it that way [17:33:52] I wish there was a better way to do ads that didn't require me to hack MonoBook [17:34:11] just tell google to give you the money; you're good for it [17:34:24] If only... [17:37:45] jfolv: sure there is [17:37:55] [[mw:Extension:ShoutWiki Ads]] :) [17:38:14] (full disclaimer: I wrote and maintain it :P) [17:49:48] !e ShoutWiki_Ads [17:49:48] https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:ShoutWiki_Ads [20:29:48] ashley: Thanks, but we use more than just Adsense. In fact, I don't even think we do use adsense anymore. Unless it can support Playwire and Primis, it's not useful for me :( [20:32:27] And no, this is not my decision in any way. I'm just the poor sod who has to put them in. [21:12:46] jfolv: given that this is the first time I hear of those, it goes without saying that they're not -- yet! -- supported, but patches are more than welcome :) the extension supports multiple ad "slots" per skin and is implemented in a way which does not require hacking skins, so it's definitely (at least written to be) the go-to hassle-free advertising solution for MediaWiki; but like with all other human-made things, nothing's perfect but your contributions [21:12:47] can get us a bit closer to perfection ;)
