[01:01:39] hi. [01:02:26] what is the extension that allows you to find the articles/destinations closest to you on Wikiviajes? i don't remember what it was :( [01:03:15] Hispano76: maybe this one? https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:NearbyPages [01:04:16] yeees! thanks thanks MatmaRex :DD [01:05:22] :D [01:15:54] Hello. I am MarkVanDannyBilly. I am wondering on how to duplicate an infobox 4 times in a quad shape. Does such a template exist? [01:19:51] Hello again, I want to know if I can make a template that showcases a computer monitor and its stats like on the Apple Thunderbolt Display, but in a quadruple box shape. I am MarkVanDannyBilly. Thanks in advance. [01:36:44] How is the vandalism level on mw.org? [01:37:05] I just came across vandalism while reading [[MediaWiki_1.37]].. I was able to revert it myself, but came across it as a reader not via RC or similar [06:04:52] I've added auto-lookup for Composer name to https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Template:Extension — could someone mark it for translation please? [07:28:50] samwilson: done [07:41:25] AlexZ: thanks! actually... I made a mistake, could you do it again :-/ [07:41:50] lol yea let me check [07:42:20] done [07:42:27] I'd love to overhaul that template a bit one of these days... for now, it'll have to live with some weird things... [07:42:30] thanks! :) [10:39:57] Hi. I run mediawiki on a Turnkey virtual machine on ESXi. Occasionally articles will take a very long time to load (5-10 seconds). Usually articles that have not been visited in a while. I don't understand why. I used to host another mediawiki on a ubuntu vm instance on the same server and i never had this issue. What could be the problem? [12:11:29] Guest4848: it sounds like some cache expired. It's hard to tell what cache that is. Could be the parser cache, or the localization cache, or a number of other things. [12:12:42] Check your cache settings, and also check cache capacity controlled outside of mediawiki. e.g. putting things into APCu is super fast, but the cache is small, so things are likely to get pushed out after not too long. [12:13:25] ok thank you [12:18:08] cache or not though... how can anything at all even take 10 seconds? the host server has high performance and the articles are short [12:26:45] It's hard to answer without any information [12:28:09] I can look into the cache settings but aside from that I don't even know how to begin troubleshooting this [12:29:20] !perf [12:29:23] !slow [12:29:31] * Reedy kicks wm-bot [12:29:42] The cache will expire eventually [12:35:03] sometimes high performance doesn't matter much when things are done sequentially [22:16:08] Good evening.  Would someone be kind enough to help me figure out what is wrong with a Wiki I work on please?  I've been granted temporary administrator rights, and I'm trying to clear a backlog of stuff that needs deleting. [22:16:36] Every time I try, the site is generating an error (albeit in Catalan, so I don't know if it's much use to post here). [22:17:26] I'll see if it'll let me paste the contents here. [22:17:26] S'ha produït un error en la consulta de la base de dades. Això pot indicar un error en el programari. [22:17:27] [1d6fdf693d2f2024a50759ac] 2022-01-19 21:48:02: Excepció fatal del tipus «Wikimedia\Rdbms\DBQueryError» [22:18:21] !debug [22:18:21] For information on debugging (including viewing errors), see https://mediawiki.org/wiki/Manual:How_to_debug . A list of related configuration variables is at https://mediawiki.org/wiki/Manual:Configuration_settings#Debug.2Flogging Also see https://mediawiki.org/wiki/Manual:Errors_and_symptoms [22:19:18] Perfect.  I queried the search at mediawiki.com for RDBMS errors and found nothing that helped.  I'll have a read through there. Cheers! [22:27:32] The error itself suggests that it could be a bug in the software.  I think i'm going to hand it up to one of our technical people. This is *way* beyond me!  Thanks for the info, Reedy. [22:27:56] DaneGeld: Usually setting $wgShowExceptionDetails = true; in LocalSettings.php gives a more verbose error [22:27:58] If you tell us what it is, we might be able to advise [22:29:48] Of course Reedy. Sorry. [22:29:49] "A database query error has occurred.  This may indicate a bug in the software." [22:29:49] "[1d6fdf693d2f2024a50759ac] 2022-01-19 21:48:02: Fatal exception of the type: «Wikimedia\Rdbms\DBQueryError» [22:30:04] We need a bit more than that ;) [22:30:38] Yeah, I don't have the rights to set $wgShowExceptionDetails = true, so I'm gonna have to send it higher. [22:31:10] All I did was translated the error from Catalan to English. [22:32:00] The thing that's got me is this: we can edit articles, upload stuff, everything. It's only deletion which is affected. [22:41:55] A database error may indicate a missing table or column, or some data inconsistency [22:43:00] The verbose error message may give you a clue of what's going on [22:43:51] Thanks.  I've messaged one of our technical gurus to generate his magic on whatever's broken. [22:47:37] Looks from our logs that the last time anything whatsoever was deleted, was June last year.  The thing is we've had no active admins on the site since January 2021, and the last deletion was made by a global sysop.  I hope it's not gone unnoticed all that time.
