[01:14:52] Hi! I was trying to update from a git checkout of 1.37.2 to a current version and ended up getting a message that my composer dependencies required PHP 8.1 when I had PHP 7.4. I used the 'composer update --no-dev' instruction from https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Download_from_Git#Fetch_external_libraries - I resolved it by checking out https://gerrit.wikimedia.org/r/mediawiki/vendor.git [01:14:52] instead, but thought I'd mention it. It seems like such an upgrade swittches symfony/deprecation-contracts from v2.5.1 to v3.1.1 and removes various things including wikimedia/equivset and symfony/polyfill-php81. [01:17:44] Managed to get onto 1.38.2 so it's not like, a pressing issue. Will probably try moving to PHP 8.1 at some point anyway since MW support was what I was waiting for and it looks like that's largely done for simple installations. [01:31:59] GreenReaper: so composer update --no-dev on 1.38.2 tried to install symfony/deprecation-contracts 3.1.1? [01:32:38] here on git master I have 3.0.2 [01:33:41] TimStarling: That appears to be what I'm geting, yes. Specifically, removing wikimedia/equivset (1.4.3) symfony/polyfill-php81 (v1.25.0) psr/simple-cache (1.0.1) opis/json-schema (1.1.0) jakobo/hotp-php (v2.0.0) christian-riesen/base32 (1.6.0), Upgrading symfony/deprecation-contracts (v2.5.1 => v3.1.1) [01:34:00] It is always possible I'm doing something wrong, of course. ^^ [01:35:06] When I do git checkout in /w/ it says "Your branch is up to date with 'origin/REL1_38" other than a few mw-config images that appear to be deleted for some reason. [01:35:35] Perhaps REL1_38 differs from 1.38.2 though [01:36:26] * GreenReaper has always used the REL branches to avoid being inadvertently stuck on an old version or having to checkout the new one. [01:36:58] Initially I was trying REL1_37 and IIRC I had the same issue. [01:42:27] I'm going to try reproducing this [01:44:07] I don't know that it matters, but this is a sqlite-based wiki on Debian Bullseye-backports with PHP 7.4 from Sury's debian repo. [01:44:32] I did git clone https://gerrit.wikimedia.org/r/mediawiki/core -b REL1_38 --depth 1 [01:45:02] then php7.4 composer.phar update, where composer.phar is 2.2.5 [01:46:18] and I got symfony/deprecation-contracts 2.5.2 [01:46:31] ah... [01:46:48] if I then run php8.1 composer.phar update, it upgrades deprecation-contracts to 3.1.1 [01:47:01] I seem to have Composer version 2.4.1 2022-08-20 11:44:50 [01:47:11] you must have run composer with PHP 8.1 [01:47:42] Yes, that is likely to be it, php 8.1 CLI is installed. [01:51:01] php7.4 ./composer.phar update --no-dev --dry-run does a variety of downgrades rather than upgrades for symfony-related componets to v2.5.2 and v5.4.11 [01:52:39] (For the lock file), and package operations still remove a few things but only upgrade deprecation-contracts from 2.5.1 to 2.5.2. Well, makes sense that it detects the PHP version from CLI. :-) [02:18:36] * GreenReaper adds a brief note for this to the git download page in case anyone else runs into that. [15:38:44] Hi, why has my ipl address been blocked? [15:40:46] Hi Guest9865. [15:40:59] Which IP address has been blocked and where? [15:42:44] How do I find my IPL address.. I was attempting to edit my husbands Wikipedia info and it stated my address had been blocked by HASLEY. I'm unable to email them as it won't allow me to log in. [15:44:12] Are you there Quinn? [15:44:51] The message that tells you're blocked should also indicate which IP address is blocked, or just the username if the block was targeted only to the user [15:45:46] When I enter my user name it just says its blocked. [15:46:04] It told me whom has blocked it. [15:46:18] Pasting here the exact error message may help [15:46:43] How do I go back and get that info without losing this thread [15:47:05] Without losing what thread? [15:47:38] I guess the guest is connecting through webchat on a mobile device [15:47:43] So if I leave the chat to get the msg..will I be able to re enter the same chat [15:48:10] Yes correct I am [15:50:12] If you're quick enough, you can. Otherwise, it will assign you a new username [15:51:45] It won't allow me to paste the msg [15:54:38] I'm on a mobile Web chat. I'm trying to find out why I was blocked. [15:55:23] I was on a previous chat but when I was trying to get info on block it deleted previous chat thread. [15:56:42] Those of us that were here before can still see it ;) [15:57:16] It states...cross wiki abuse and blocked by HASLEY. [15:58:27] Just says IPL has been blocked from editing. Block expires in 19days. [15:59:04] 'There is no global account for "HASLEY".', so it seems that the username from that block event might not be quite right? [15:59:06] Glad to hear you can all still there!!! [16:01:24] When I looked up support..it states to contact admin..so I clicked admin list and Hasley was on the list but because they blocked me, I'm unable to email them directly. [16:02:51] Is there a way I can attach a screen shot? [16:03:22] Which wiki are you even talking about? [16:03:37] Sounds to me like you are coming from an IP that has been globally blocked and you are seeing the error message that is factually incorrect (that you can contact Stewards when IP blocked) [16:04:34] https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ben [16:05:25] This is the one [16:06:41] So it allows me to access and read my husbands info but not edit. [16:08:02] Sorry if I'm confusing you all.. I'm not very familiar with any of this stuff. [16:09:18] https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/MediaWiki:Blockedtext Oh, yeah, the blockedtext message has been customized on English Wikipedia, striping the "Your current IP address is $3, and the block ID is #$5." [16:10:47] What does that mean? I'm so sorry to sound dumb? It said my block ends in 19days.. [16:12:25] That means someone removed some technical details from the message, that may help identify the block [16:14:01] Guest9865: Chances are you shouldn't be editing your husbands info anyway [16:18:08] I was editing information they had that was incorrect about his football career and adding info they hadn't added as well as spouse info and children. It was innocent enough. If someone is going to go to the trouble of putting someone's personal info on Wikipedia you'd expect them to at least be able to verify it first prior to putting it on a [16:18:09] public forum. Happy enough to forward the info but it does state that we are able to add info etc. [16:20:26] Guest9865: probably best would be if you start the discussion and forward the missing info on the Talk: page specific to the article. just "Ben" is about the given name though, so the one about the specific person [16:22:35] Yeah I was deleting his name when I pasted the copied link and accidentally hit send prior to deleting the Christian name also. Thanks heaps for your help. [16:23:19] I'll give that a go. [16:26:42] Josephine: so you are aware how every page has a Talk: page to go with it? that will work best to start a topic there, list the missing things, mention you are family.. others should help then [16:27:51] the issue is that it's usually hard to stay neutral when it's your direct family.it doesn't mean you are forbidden from contributing but it means they would double check if for being a neutral point of view [16:33:59] Hi folks - I've found a bug in a commonly used extension (used on en-wp, etc) that makes it so that for certain reasonable inputs, the parse time can be quadratic in the size of the input - so like a 60kb payload might take 80 seconds to parse on en-wp. Is this worth reporting as a security bug, or should I just go through the standard phabricator [16:33:59] process for normal tickets? [16:34:34] CookMePlox: File it as a security task. Generally better safe than sorry :) [16:37:01] Thanks mutante. You've provided some great options for me to correct the info. 🥲 [16:41:10] Josephine: you're welcome. good luck [18:19:12] Reedy: filed a security bug, thanks for the advice [19:06:15] Woo. [19:58:13] hi [19:58:58] how can I see the pages of the mediawiki namespace that appear on any page, example main page [19:59:32] Hi Hispano76. [19:59:44] ?uselang=qqx probably. [19:59:51] https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/MediaWiki?uselang=qqx [19:59:54] For example. [20:00:11] thanks!
