[00:01:50] I just went ahead and asked them on Meta Wikimedia after seeing this: https://meta.miraheze.org/w/index.php?title=User:Adamw&oldid=191197 [00:01:51] [url] User:Adamw - Miraheze Meta | meta.miraheze.org [00:02:30] I'm sure that nearly 99% of the time, they would mostly be fakes coming to Miraheze. [00:03:55] Good [00:04:38] I'm suspicious of their user page on Miraheze, so I decided to ask the real deal on Wikimedia. [00:06:19] Yes I see that, but for me, I'm actually not suspicious, I am just feeling it's them, but asking them on WMMeta is just a nice step to take for clarity's sake [00:06:42] Anyone with a generic message like "Hi, I'm X, a Y of Z" is immediately suspicious. [00:06:56] Specifically on Wikimedia or Wikipedia. [00:07:49] I'll let you know if they say it's not them. [00:08:19] The confirmation should come from the Wikimedia side, technically [00:08:33] Did they confirm on their Wikimedia user page somewhere? [00:08:37] Thanks DarkMatterBladeMan4000#2260 😀 👍 [00:08:56] @Doug That's what I asked to the said user on Meta Wikimedia. [00:09:28] .wmca Adamcw [00:09:29] https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Special:CentralAuth/Adamcw [00:09:44] oops [00:09:50] .wmca Adamw [00:09:50] https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Special:CentralAuth/Adamw [00:19:57] True though [02:44:51] @dorito how's your skin going? [03:06:11] I lost the files for it after switching drives [03:06:33] I still have the old drive but it would be inconvenient to switch back to it atm [03:14:53] oh, :( [04:19:02] Yeah, I thought I had put them with the rest of the files I wanted to save on a USB stick but I apparently didn't [04:20:24] I guess I could buy a SATA to USB adapter on Amazon or something so that I don't have to take apart my laptop again and replace the drive to get the files [04:26:04] ouch [05:37:29] meta is so slow that my translations are timing out [05:37:29] https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/615786602454581249/874164459831193620/unknown.png [05:38:05] it's intermittent but about half of the translations face this screen [05:38:19] wondering when Miraheze is upgrading capacity [06:09:30] Is Miraheze isn't benefiting from any grants from UK as a registered company in there? [06:11:09] I don't think Miraheze receives any sort of grant? [06:12:24] I see [06:13:48] That's quite 💔 [10:00:54] @DarkMatterMan4500 does your ip-ext-info.js works? [10:18:31] I've been doing some testing with that script. [11:20:53] well, afaik, the only thing Miraheze has, as a non-profit company specifically, is that they don't have to pay (some) taxes [11:24:49] new pfp [13:18:08] Yes [13:30:20] We have to pay all taxes, no exemptions unfortunately as the scope is too wide to be eligible for charitable status [13:32:36] interesting, I thought because it's registered as non-profit, this would qualify as tax-exempt (at least for some) automatically [13:46:21] Unfortunate indeed [14:16:33] Quite unfortunate [14:24:32] In the UK, the only difference between a not-for-profit and a for-profit is the business aims and how easily directors can get pay outs. Only tax exemptions apply to charities and community interest companies [14:53:09] too bad you all can't exploit the U.S.' lax tax code and avoid taxes [17:37:37] @DarkMatterMan4500 I think you all administrators of Qualitipedia should place a site notice on the wikis closed explaining why they were closed. We have 4 threads on the Stewards' noticeboard asking about why the Character Wikis were closed. [17:37:52] Yeah, okay. [17:38:35] Also, I'm going to need help from a Steward in dealing with a persistent user who won't stop socking, on multiple wikis, and sent me foe requests everywhere I go. [17:47:20] Yet another place to consider a true qp central admin [18:20:51] @darkmatter if you need someone to watch over the wiki and Block trolls let me know I'm up for it [18:21:04] @DarkMatterMan4500 [18:21:21] I'm usually patrolling wikis anyway @Cocopuff2018. [18:22:08] Nice I'm always up for issuing blocks on wiki If ya need help [18:41:23] I don't think that their are any taxes in the UK that would apply to Miraheze [18:42:25] Corporation tax is charged on profits (which it doesn't have) VAT is charged on sales (which it doesn't have) and NI contributions ect. are charged on employees (which it doesn't have). [18:43:05] It doesn't get gift aid as it isn't a charity... [18:46:02] Profit is defined as any gains in a financial year, so our first year - any money we had (which was £2000) was defined as a ‘profit’ as the year before the company had no money [18:46:57] So if we spend £4000 in a year, but bring in £5000 in donations, it’s technically £1000 profit for which corporation tax is liable on [18:47:24] Okay [18:47:55] Why can't Miraheze be a CIC? [18:50:49] A CIC would limit the type of business that can be carried out by Miraheze [18:52:48] Such as political activities and private interest - all activities must be for a community not affiliated to private business or political organisations. The community must also be legally defined [18:53:29] Further the tax relief available isn’t nearly as generous as a charity, so the restrictions imposed wouldn’t outweigh the tax saving
