[06:24:26] I mean I 100% disagree with the actions of Labour in Leicester recently [06:25:45] A vote was put forward about the future of the Mayor position and Labour originally had no whip position on it. When a bunch of Labour councilors came out on support of removing the position, they introduced a whip and then deselected everyone who was in favour of removing the position [06:25:53] To me, it was a direct attack on democracy [06:29:24] So essentially the option given was you either support something you disagree with and those you represent disagree with, or you stop representing us. So I can see deselection leading to loss of seats to Conservatives potentially in the next local elections as well of potentially still remaining Labour councilors [10:41:31] Interesting reading, Owen [11:08:24] I don’t think that would be why the other parties may make gains but because of the recent fighting. Also it was the NEC who deselected them (they wouldn’t have done it for them going against or for the mayor position) [11:10:09] I want regional mayors scrapped and instead replaced with regional parliaments (ofc Leicester having an elected mayor is different as they have significantly less powers then regional mayors and regional mayors have significantly less powers then regional parliaments (if they become a thing)) [11:12:36] I do think labour keeps It’s majority on the council. [11:14:33] I do wish labour just open selection for Leicester East [11:16:05] https://www.jewishnews.co.uk/labour-drop-councillor-who-called-for-jewish-leaders-to-sign-anti-israel-statement/
