[02:03:08] That sounds fun, ive been planning on setting up ntfy to get push notifications on my phone for completion of long CLI processes or whatever [02:03:53] I also wanna after I set up a panel for running Minecraft servers make a setup to be able to say Alexa make a new Minecraft server and would probably use notifications there [02:04:27] Any big pros or cons about Fedora or any other distros, DE aside? [04:12:07] Honestly I'm kinda sad that femboys got infected by normies. Before it was a cute lgbt kink but now it's just a lot of zoomers and edgelords, mostly chronically online idiots, basically got hijacked by the mainstream. It's kinda like blinch and knee surgery, where as soon as they got popular and known by zoomers it instantly became boring and stupid, speaking as one myself [04:12:41] Idk if I'm allowed to speak about this but yeah [04:12:45] Had to rant [05:14:59] Didn't have a 'no true Scotsman' argument for femboys on my radar for today, but... [05:16:54] Assumption/absorption into the mainstream and dilettantes joining niche spaces is a universal pand perpetual thing, you'll see it many more times in your time on this globe. [05:19:00] It's really grating when a closely-held identity is trivialized in this way, something I can empathize with from personal but unrelated experience. [05:20:40] Instead, I suggest focusing efforts on being kind to those who are new and trying to figure their thing out, the world is cruel enough already. [05:22:19] Wishing you a tomorrow better than today, in all days to come. [06:47:07] I have that set up on my server and it notifies my when somebody logs into it or when the disk space runs out, the only problem is that my samsung phone deactivates the app after a while and it stops working if I don't open it regularly [06:53:20] [1/3] Fedora is pretty stable compared to other distros. [06:53:20] [2/3] A downside is that since it's developed by Red Hat it uses RPM instead of DEB and uses dnf to install packages instead of apt, while deb and apt are more popular and online tutorials will often assume you're running a debian-based distro. Also the repositories differ between distros but I haven't had anything missing in the Fedora repos yet apart from OpenW [06:53:21] [3/3] ebStart which I had to download as .deb and convert to .rpm [09:38:45] Fedora's support base is surprisingly strong and will probably catch anything that isn't lazily and exclusively set for ubuntu [09:39:53] support is why I err towards recommending fedora over opensuse, the latter having worse support and often depending on just making the fedora equivalent work [09:40:53] stability wise it is relatively balanced; its releases are hit or miss is how I would put it, more so than latest ubuntu which follows a similar schedule. But you have pretty good control over this and I'd say it's very good at this. [12:17:48] Would that be a top recommendation or should still look at Debian or Ubuntu [12:18:11] Also, confession, I, didn’t know Minecraft had binaries for Linux LMAO [12:18:21] I thought it only supported Mac and Windows [12:18:24] Which [12:18:28] Great for me [12:18:34] Thought I’d have to use wine [12:44:56] yeah, java edition is nice like that [12:45:37] fedora is a perfectly good contender, especially if you just want to try something and see how it feels for a while; there's always the option to migrate if you decide fedora's quirks are untenable and want to do something different [12:47:23] Bedrock can go pound sand [12:47:34] I'm surprised they didn't rewrite Minecraft in C# [12:47:41] They did [12:47:49] pardon? [12:48:11] Wait no sorry [12:48:16] C++ [12:48:17] Nah it used LWJGL [12:48:30] I half expected them to rewrite it in C# to show the power of C# [12:49:18] [12:49:32] Light weight java game library [12:49:49] Bedrock is written in C++ [12:50:32] Yeah, not surprised [12:50:40] I suppose Java doesn't run on Xbox et al natively [12:51:52] What quirks [12:54:12] Having them be literally two different games is funky af for gameplay though [13:12:37] hard to explain, you'll feel them as time goes on [13:12:41] nothing dealbreaking [13:12:52] So UX [13:13:21] And not part of the DE [13:45:04] pretty much, and I can't really think of anything notable for fedora that I didn't mention like its hit and miss releases [13:52:51] So main thing on my list is Fedora KDE [13:53:14] Does Debian have KDE hm [13:53:35] it does [13:53:53] I don’t really wanna use Ubuntu but I know that’s mainly cause I’m too qUiRKy to use the main popular one [13:54:04] Brain isn’t always logical alas [13:54:04] it will be an older kde so maybe not as polished though [13:54:15] but reasonably stable enough [13:59:09] Too many options… [14:11:33] if you're looking at more cutting edge stuff and/or gaming I think I'd recommend fedora as the smoother distro to use [14:11:40] and from there just pick, try, see how it goes [15:15:10] [1/2] how does corp.roblox.com do this join now button 😵 [15:15:11] [2/2] https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/615786602454581249/1322946020136718377/image0.jpg?ex=6772b8fe&is=6771677e&hm=3cc2d7ad62a4e0963f4b84f52bf3667940e4d6f96cd093b42e9d86b5964686f6& [15:18:09] here's an old: https://login.corp.google.com/ [15:23:48] I just spent an unecessary amount of time trying to get PortableInfoboxes to display in VE to no avail grrr [15:26:52] so would accept values visually and w/o TemplateData? [15:27:18] nini chat [15:27:19] no, just so it appears on the screen instead of just appearing as a puzzle piece [15:27:33] be gay throw bricks at cop cars and all that jazz [15:27:43] but alas as usual WMF provide 0 documentation to how VE works under the hood [15:58:35] does anyone remember which that extension is that lets you simulate parsoid reads? [17:19:27] VE uses parsoid? [17:19:48] The bigger issue is PI is totally and absolutely wrecked on Parsoid [17:20:12] [1/2] > VE uses parsoid? [17:20:12] [2/2] i don't even know at this point, the whole parsoid migration is kinda fucked [17:20:41] Yea, but that is something that is going to be fixed upstream, hopefully — but even when it is fixed they still won't appear in VE. [17:21:22] CA spent days trying to make it work on Parsoid before he went on med leave [17:21:32] Mmmmmmmm [17:21:47] https://tenor.com/view/chihuahua-cane-recensionivere-cosa-what-gif-7417567602944477819 [17:21:55] well its impossible to get it to work on parsoid at the moment until WMF implement the needed changes in Parsoid for it to work [17:22:11] no amount of trying will get it to work its impossible until the functionality is exposed in parsoid [17:24:23] Okay [17:24:34] So I’ll start planning the funeral [17:25:59] the interim solution from the WMF is apparently to use `{{#tag:infobox|...}}` in the template but I haven't tested that [17:25:59] https://meta.miraheze.org/wiki/%23tag:Template:infobox [17:26:11] bro how annoying [17:30:44] What [17:30:49] exactly [17:44:05] That's an extremely hacky hack. 🤣 [17:45:46] I’ve never even seen that parser function [17:46:41] [1/2] I found this at the end of Mediawiki update [17:46:42] [2/2] https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/615786602454581249/1322984151267282955/image.png?ex=6772dc81&is=67718b01&hm=5235804194524e0649066c2bed168ecc726aa69acccee48bf316bcf92f4f39ab& [17:46:46] 💀 [17:47:16] What [17:47:41] This is actually a good quote I forgot about, I should use this in my presentation [17:50:59] bruh [17:55:23] Until you realize it's the same guy running Fandoom [17:55:31] 💀 [18:03:19] Oh [18:03:28] Yeah [18:03:32] Well he’s not running it [18:03:36] He’s an executive there [18:03:56] Jimbo [18:04:57] You do know who Jimbo is right [18:08:34] does he do like, anything, these days on wp? [18:30:34] He’s on the WMF board of trustees [18:31:45] His rep in the community is mixed(basically got kicked out of the admin bit quite some time ago, last I saw of him was commenting on a discussion to BLACKOUT in protest of WMF considering bending to the will of the Indian Court in Wikimedia Foundation vs. ANI [19:50:26] https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fd1TIPC9sGE [20:02:33] @pixldev OMG [20:02:34] I DID IT [20:02:38] ARE YOU PROUD [20:02:45] I GOT PORTABLE INFOBOXES TO DISPLAY IN VE [20:02:57] WAIT [20:02:58] HOW [20:02:59] WTF [20:03:02] OA [20:03:08] YOU’RE GOATED [20:03:14] YOU’RE ACTUALLY GOATED [20:03:20] https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/615786602454581249/1323018536724992091/image.png?ex=6772fc87&is=6771ab07&hm=150c579cfdd9ade1e382cdfde7af7d0484447217f59fc6523288c67654eb4086& [20:03:34] I kid you not, I must have spent about 5/6 hours on this today [20:04:12] why it be floated over to the left though _scratches head_ [20:04:37] I DONT KNOW I DONT CARE YOU ARE A GOD AMONGT MEN [20:06:36] How? [20:07:00] a lot of fucking about with visual editor content editable nodes [20:07:25] (short tail of it, send the wikitext to the MW Api and ask for the HTML back which can be displayed in the VE) [20:08:31] This isn’t a fix to the Parsoid issue is it [20:09:11] nope [20:09:21] a fix nonetheless! [20:11:52] https://github.com/Universal-Omega/PortableInfobox/commit/d16bbee7da0e8c10be22b3d065736501c486f358 for anyone interested [20:12:35] will push them to UO's repo when I've refined [20:14:56] woooooo [20:15:13] another win for pi nation [20:42:05] I just happened to realize that most of the active users in the #miraheze IRC have discord accounts and use those on the other side of the bridge more often than IRC [20:56:46] Uh yea [20:57:01] I am guilty of that too [22:01:36] nooooooooooo [22:01:44] President Carter passed away today [22:02:02] First Centennial President [22:02:12] Rest in Peace man [22:02:16] 🕯️ [22:48:19] 100 years old [23:54:37] TIL there was an alternative Linux mascot that was a transfem fox furry
