[03:32:35] [1/2] Hi all. I've been following wikimedia's temporary accounts feature for some time. As of july, the WMF is rolling it out to some actual wikipedias. [03:32:35] [2/2] Is this something that miraheze could enable on a wiki if asked? I don't know exactly which mediawiki version temporary accounts landed in or if miraheze could support it. [We](https://civwiki.miraheze.org/wiki/Main_Page) would be very interested in opting in to this. [03:33:20] Automod won't let me post the link to it, but if you google "mediawiki trust and safety temporary accounts" it's the first link [03:40:06] This is something we will be considering eventually maybe even after the MediaWiki 1.44 upgrade. We currently don't support wikis to use it, however, we might end up considering that later after we upgrade all of our wikis to 1.44. [03:41:01] It needs more consideration and testing from our side on the actual impact and other effects it has before I can say yes or no either way on that with certainty though. [03:42:19] ok, thanks. we would be very happy to beta test this as well [03:43:07] I'll wait until things firm up more [03:46:30] [1/2] Once we upgrade to MediaWiki 1.44 you can ask this again for consideration if it gets lost somewhere, or if we decide to open it for testing more I'll reach out to you. It also needs a security assessment before we can do anything with it. Some rights are temporary account only and some may allow access to sensitive parts of MediaWiki if we dont restrict them s [03:46:30] [2/2] o we'd also need to audit and confirm everything is in order before we can even really considering it to be used. [10:06:07] @abaddriverlol I just saw that EmbedVideo released a new version for MW1.43+, so we can upgrade it on Mirabeta now. [10:10:06] Upgraded it on beta; there was an error at first because the maintainers apparently did some weird stuff with the branch [10:13:25] Also upgraded it on prod [10:20:17] [1/2] oops, I broke the exttest wiki once again [10:20:17] [2/2] https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/1006789349498699827/1403684301391925310/image.png?ex=68987260&is=689720e0&hm=a4a7d884e62c818590b6e7cf866db345ab88944c2e955421cd3a2db733512554& [10:20:44] user sidebars in DynamicSidebar only work if you add `* USER-SIDEBAR` to MediaWiki:Sidebar, which I did, but apparently there are missing imports for namespaced classes (once again) [10:21:09] ts never ends [10:21:21] and we're gonna do it again for 1.45 [10:21:25] and 1.46 [10:21:31] and 1.47 [10:23:13] at least it takes 2 minutes to do these patches https://gerrit.wikimedia.org/r/c/mediawiki/extensions/DynamicSidebar/+/1176759 [10:24:47] composer fix :3 [10:25:38] nah [10:25:46] i just removed it any reimported it using phpstorm [10:26:06] running composer install && composer fix takes longer than that [10:26:32] no i mean CI failed because imports are not sorted LMAO [10:27:08] yeah ik [10:27:29] but I usually fix it manually and don't use composer run fix [10:27:35] ah, fair [10:27:59] honestly should write a script at this point [18:55:08] hey so I was wondering [18:56:00] I've been using normal wikipedia for a bit, and I realised they had bot accounts that would fix things up such as like pulling copyrighted images and stuff off the web, or what interested me was a mla citation type bot that goes in and cleans up citations turning them from just links into something readable [18:56:13] I was wondering if a bot like that is possible to make into mediawiki? [19:01:53] Yup [19:02:28] You are welcome to run your own bots on your wiki providing you comply with our automated request rules [19:02:52] If it works on Wikipedia, it should work for us with minimal issues if it's using the API [19:03:27] @lelmaster [19:05:08] [1/2] gotcha, Im a programmer, but I dont have a lot of experience rn sorry [19:05:09] [2/2] how would I do that? [19:06:52] You would have to see if the bot is open source [19:07:05] And then go and edit the code so it connects to one of our wikis [19:07:12] And then try it out [19:14:13] gotcha, will do! [19:18:44] [1/2] and if you want to make your own, you can use some libraries like [[mw:Manual:Pywikibot]] or https://www.npmjs.com/package/mwn [19:18:44] [2/2] see also https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Help:Creating_a_bot#Programming_languages_and_libraries [19:18:45] [19:19:25] [1/2] there's also https://github.com/ms609/citation-bot [19:19:25] [2/2] but I'm not sure if that fits your usecase and may be a bit complicated (as with anything wikipedia) [20:15:44] Scale for this timeline is not matching the data for reasons I can't quite figure out https://meta.miraheze.org/wiki/Global_Administrators/Chart [20:17:04] I never found them charts nice to use [20:17:25] I always found it decided to pick stupid scales [20:17:43] Not my fault [20:17:44] Isn't the scale supposed to be configurable? [20:18:00] it literally isn't it wasn't like this until I edited it [20:18:16] What [20:20:31] Supposedly he [20:41:36] ISO 8601 is not supported https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:EasyTimeline/syntax#DateFormat [20:41:47] Bloody hell [20:41:50] What a stupid extension [20:42:44] I'm gonna make my own timeline extension! With blackjack! And hookers! [20:44:28] there are now 15 competing charting extensions [20:44:54] I only know about the one WMF killed off and the one WMF is developing to replace it. And EasyTimelines – would one of these replacements kill that? [20:45:45] [[mw:Extension:EasyTimeline]] states: "There is a long-term effort to get the Chart extension to replace this extension." [20:45:51] [20:46:12] they seem to have made a lot of progress https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T137291 [20:46:14] Excellent [20:46:34] Yeah I used it to make this https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:NIOSH [20:46:48] this was /s btw [20:47:13] I like Chart tho, hope they keep working on it [20:48:07] I think I’ve met some of the WMF people working on it in person [20:51:47] Charts is coming to a Miraheze wiki near you soon [20:51:58] But does Charts support timelines [20:53:24] Charts vs Chart is gonna annoy me a lot [20:54:51] Prepared to be annoyed then [20:55:04] yea I saw your edit lol [20:55:20] I don't think it currently supports timelines tho [21:50:48] [1/2] i think they still need to work on making the charts responsive [21:50:48] [2/2] https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/1006789349498699827/1403858074850295819/Screenshot_20250809_235023_Firefox.jpg?ex=68991437&is=6897c2b7&hm=b408eb7f505393a61d111e7f6b667cffe14b8c0df3b2f0b6216f23e7199e906f& [21:51:31] LMFAO [21:51:35] burj khalifa looking [21:52:34] That could just be the formatting I have on the page [21:54:44] [1/2] yeah, it looks a bit better on the chart page [21:54:44] [2/2] https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/1006789349498699827/1403859067923071088/Screenshot_20250809_235425_Firefox.jpg?ex=68991524&is=6897c3a4&hm=f0f089d04ee251935a1b4680da2bee87bd10dec178526a33670793ca0c62e9d5& [21:54:51] but still, the majority of the screen width is unused [22:06:51] I tried something clever to make the data table and chart look more presentable. I may have been clever by half. [22:07:14] Yeah, it doesn't look great on mobile even standalone
