[02:41:50] Hello Moisty_! If you have any questions, feel free to ask and someone should answer soon. [02:42:06] What’s up [02:42:29] How does this work [02:50:09] Moisty_ How does what work? [02:50:26] This [02:50:35] Like I don’t get it [02:50:37] Moisty_: IRC? [02:50:42] Yea [02:51:27] You just type [02:51:30] Like you're doing right now [02:56:22] Yeah but why use this instead of Discord? [02:56:27] Just wondering [02:58:36] Because Discord fucking SUCKS lol [02:58:51] I deleted my account there over a year ago and haven't missed it a bit [03:01:55] I personally like Discord for some things, but I like IRC better for simple things, and it has same nicer advantages. Depending on IRC client used, it can be just a nice as Discord is for talking also. Only disadvantage I can think of right now is getting disconnected for inactivity sometimes. [03:05:18] Interesting [03:10:47] Hello Guest80! If you have any questions, feel free to ask and someone should answer soon. [03:50:16] CosmicAlpha : IRC does *NOT* disconnect you for inactivity [03:50:22] That's the IRC client you use [03:50:30] If you don't like it just use a different client and you'll never have that problem [03:50:35] It does for me, on any client I have used. [03:50:42] Unless paying [03:52:10] My client is free and its connectivity is limited by my residential-grade internet and netsplits, or travel. [03:53:54] I typically just leave my PC onto IRC to stay connected. [03:55:28] So you've never used anything other than IRCCloud? [03:55:37] HexChat doesn't just "close for inactivity" or anything else like that [03:59:37] I tried a couple others before, but never like UI for them either, or something else. IRCCloud was the best in my opinion. But maybe it is time I start considering changing. I wonder if Matrix disconnects, I could use that for the bridge to IRC. I like how that one is. [04:01:14] But yes your right depending on the client some may keep you in a keepalive state, but that is up to clients, I thought it was IRC (well Libera in this case) that does disconnect for inactivity and the clients that keep you from doing that. [08:25:05] Hello Umby! If you have any questions, feel free to ask and someone should answer soon. [13:11:12] CosmicAlpha : No, IRC only disconnects when the client disconnects. Meaning if you closed HexChat or similar [13:11:55] You don't get disconnected just for being inactive. That's what the away status is for. For example robla has been idle for 23 days and is still here [13:13:04] IRCCloud disconnects you for inactivity because they host the connections through their own backend. Also, "inactivity" is measured via the IRCCloud client like whether you have the tab open, even if Libera thinks you aren't there
