[07:22:46] https://meta.miraheze.org/wiki/Dev:Category:Templates [07:22:47] [4/4] I would like to make a package to refer to. [07:22:47] [07:23:55] We're often repeating ourselves. And like with [Infoboxes] above, it would be easy to have some standard CSS we often use [07:24:02] We should lowkey create a CSS/JS/MW support channel [07:24:17] Pinged enough that maybe it's not a terrible idea [07:24:30] 😮 I said that on the Meeting which got shot down!! [07:25:25] You were not paying attention [07:25:34] :moonch: [07:25:48] I'll bring it up internally [07:26:21] It's something that's been on my mind for a good while but considering multiple skins and multiple different infobox templates, it's too many to make snippets for each one relistically. At least at once. I'd like to at least do something for PortableInfobox, but when I get the time, and I've been increasingly busy these days [07:27:14] One thing to make that's more important I thing is a reference/guide for using the element inspector and finding simple snippets by yourself. [10:26:20] Could you elaborate? [10:26:46] Where is the table that you try to round the corners of [10:27:11] Oh, we want all tables to have rounded edges [10:28:56] Would we have to do each table individually on the page that they're on? [11:09:28] [3/4] You can also make something fancy. [11:09:29] [4/4] /div``` on the Bunny page [11:09:38] Hey all! What is the criteria for a wiki request getting approved. I looked around but couldn't find any guidlines. The wiki requests that were declined seems like superflous ones but still, I would like to know. FTR, I am writing a self hosted wiki for a game that's coming to early access this summer. [11:11:02] As WikiCreator I ask a few standard things to find out what it is about, how the wiki will be used, and what policies you intend to implement. [11:11:31] It also depends on how broad or how narrow the subject is that you are writing about. [11:13:07] Gotcha. I believe a wiki for a game has a good scope to be accepted. Would you suggest for me to wait until the game gets into early access before requesting (its in alpha) or could I try right now? [11:14:31] I'd suggest now [11:14:40] [1/2] Best thing is to wait until Beta arrives. Or when the release date has been announced with more content then what is now available. [11:14:40] [2/2] BUt be aware that copyrights do apply [11:14:52] it'll take some time to set up [11:15:15] That is true. But not all games make it to beta [11:15:50] sometimes it'll take 2 years to beta [11:15:55] Or a name change get's introduced etc. [11:16:02] and alpha players already need references [11:16:03] Exactly [11:16:11] speaking from Gigantic lil [11:16:43] Ok. Perhaps Legroom overclasses me. (I am not a gamer so...) [11:17:46] But the wikirequest has to fulfill the criteria that it can bare a wiki with enough topics to make. [11:17:59] Fair enough. Right now, we are self hosting the wiki but adding templates and its dependencies are a pain which is why I was looking for a wikifarm. I hope that by the time the early access launches (announced to be mid this year), we will have some good content already based on the publicly available info. I will check back in then 🙏 thanks for your time [11:18:19] Addendum: [11:19:29] [1/2] The Wiki you request will have the same problem, as it is bare. You need the extensions necessary to be enabled (easy) [11:19:30] [2/2] And the templates need to be important. (We recommend those from [[Dev:Category:Templates]] [11:19:30] https://meta.miraheze.org/wiki/Dev:Category:Templates [11:19:31] [11:19:55] They are not as heavy as those from Wikipedia, and have a lot less dependencies [11:22:34] Right now, I am noting down the templates I will need but I am not bothering with templates at all....but maybe I can use these templates. Thank you so much for this link. It will help me get started with templates in the current host. [11:23:09] You're welcome. And feel free to ask [11:24:18] Would you be willing to share what kind of system you folks are using to host wikis and their extensions? I am a dev and sysops and was trying to look into what was the best and easily maintanable way to host mediawiki? I wont mind if that's a secret [11:26:58] [1/2] I think that is best asked `https://discord.com/channels/178359708581625856` [11:26:58] [2/2] https://discord.com/channels/178359708581625856 [11:27:32] That is the MediaWiki Discord, who can help you with MW setup. [11:27:33] I dont have access 😅 [11:27:37] oohh [11:27:57] You can search for the channel as well [11:28:41] I mean I know how to setup mediawiki, just looking if you folks use some special sauce that's not common knowledge 😅 [11:29:00] That would never been shared 🙂 [11:29:32] hah, cant blame me for trying. Anyway, thanks for sharing the info. Much appreciate it [11:29:35] But in Github there are many things out there. Snippits [11:30:37] Github, you mean the mediawiki github or miraheze one? [11:31:23] Actually both, as some taskes get pushed upwards (To Wikimedia Phorge) [11:36:05] [1/2] when will Lingo be enabled again [11:36:05] [2/2] https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:Lingo [11:36:21] i think it's been months now since it was (iirc) shadow-disabled [11:36:26] but my wiki really depends on it [11:39:07] [1/2] Are you bugged? [14:05:19] [2/2] It worked [14:10:28] No matter how much scroll, the (global) block logs are still showing in recentchanges [14:16:30] is there any way i can make bold text appear as bold in page previews? [14:16:59] because the only bold text is the name of the article and when there r multiple articles with the same name & i need to add (singer) or (actor) it doesn’t bold in the preview [14:19:14] This is why I have my default RC hide logs [14:21:01] [1/2] Hi, anyone got a clue why the Logo isnt loading here? [14:36:22] you may open miraheze in your smartphone and assign flooder to yourself [14:36:33] Why phone [14:37:39] :ThinkerMH: [14:37:54] What error [14:38:11] Did you just forget to add it to the groups crat can grant [14:38:34] ah [14:38:36] yeah [14:38:39] that [14:38:44] :p [14:38:53] I've granted flooder. Room between legs?😂 [18:50:47] reference to Max Headroom [18:51:10] Ohh okay, however I don't know what it is [18:54:36] [1/4] huh, the wiki seems to be updated, it used to look worse lol [18:54:36] [2/4] but RC feed is empty [18:54:36] [3/4] [18:54:37] [4/4] warning: gif background, MW 1.27 [19:00:39] [1/4] https://meta.miraheze.org/wiki/Community_portal#Error_in_Special:Preferences [19:00:39] [2/4] Hello community, I want to ask you if this error is caused by a faulty extension or is it an error in the software?, the error looks like this: [19:00:39] [3/4] `[b37c80e077ba5b67abd240fe] 2024-04-12 18:16:30: Fatal exception of type "MWException"` [19:00:40] [4/4] I also noticed that the error only occurs in TuxData and not in other wikis, is there a way to solve it? Alxira5 [19:00:49] Anyone want to address that? [19:03:17] An SRE would need to check the error info [19:09:19] you should ping @MediaWiki Engineers whenever its not something like a database is down [19:11:29] Oh. Okay. Still learning the difference between these two groups. Thanks [19:23:21] SRE is shit is burning [19:35:02] it would be nice if the citizen skin was available on meta [19:39:23] Too much to worry about. Thanks for letting me know that. In fact, I had the exact same problem 4 years ago today. [20:11:29] I probably should've thought of resetting the cookies earlier. [20:23:45] Now I'm able to centrally login. [20:26:51] It works now. [20:44:08] Agent out here trying to skyrocket my unread notifications when I log in smh :/ [20:50:00] really descriptive exception huh [20:50:07] I'll take a look [20:51:16] anyone have thoughts? https://meta.miraheze.org/wiki/Requests_for_Comment/Removal_of_rights_from_self [20:51:47] oh hi @owenrb [20:56:59] when the lta getting serious so you gotta lock in [20:57:09] Not really; it's self-explanatory [20:57:21] is it a good idea I mean [20:58:05] Definitely; it seems a little bureaucratic for users who wish to retire/resign file a request when they can just do it themselves [20:58:28] its fine, small but useful [21:00:53] now that i think about it though, why cant bureaucrats/admins remove their own permissions by default? [21:02:00] It’s probably not really as needed for stuff like ap and flooder but there’s no issues with it tbh. What’s the harm in it [21:02:04] I’d strong support [21:02:33] I've opened the RfC [21:03:35] id argue something about an account hijack to remove rights, but other than that no concerns [21:03:42] Normal non-privileged users aren't granted the ability of self-removal primarily for two reasons: (1) to prevent them from accidentally removing their flag and needing someone to repromote, (2) to prevent rage-quits where the user is asking for their flag 1 day later [21:04:07] gotcha [21:04:19] I'm removing AP and flooder, but other than that I think it's probably reasonable [21:04:51] The rest of users are privileged with some right or another [21:04:59] steward doesn't need to be on the list, they have `userrights` which overrides every other setting [21:05:15] We may wanna clarify if accidentally removing is considered a formal retirement needing a RfP or will be readded [21:05:43] :DoneMH: [21:05:50] If someone ragequits, I'm not sure if sysops would be too pitiful to readd their perms if they repent a day later [21:06:04] I think accidental is pretty clear when it happens, if that's the case stewards would re-add I assume [21:06:32] let's see how this pans out [21:07:03] I just think it helps to reduce bureaucracy for the process [21:07:15] GS/GR/sysop/IA/WC at the minimum [21:08:59] i feel like people with advanced rights probably know what theyre doing [21:09:48] if you hold some advanced rights, you must have at least some basic knowledge to know that unselecting a group on Special:UserRights and clicking submit will remove it [21:10:43] That too [21:13:12] [1/3] I don't think it's a bad idea if a "Rage-Quitter" can quit like that. If an Admin Rage-quits, than that says a lot about his ability to be an admin. [21:13:12] [2/3] And I would really be surprised if a request for reinstating the next day will be welcomed. [21:13:13] [3/3] So he gives himself a cool down period ... So go ahead, give that right 😄 [21:18:34] I mean, true, but also smart people can act really, really dumb under immense stress or pressure [21:19:17] Sure. I agree. And then it's nice that they give themselves a time out [21:20:04] I have seen so many Diva's on Wikipedia who left and came back and left and came back. Even admins. [21:22:46] [1/2] it seems my wiki is very grateful for my 10th edit [21:22:46] [2/2] https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/407537962553966603/1228455293646802997/image.png?ex=662c1b25&is=6619a625&hm=ca1d36fd0e26bece5e98772dc5dc21798ee8a856fe8402c4eaadb6f10fe646a7& [21:23:24] taking a break is very helpful [21:27:09] love echo [21:27:44] live love echo [21:32:19] just wondering, what are the requirements for cargo extension to be enabled [21:39:38] there aren't any [21:40:03] you just have to request it on [[Steward requests/Restricted changes]] [21:40:03] https://meta.miraheze.org/wiki/Steward_requests/Restricted_changes [21:40:05] [21:40:20] Hey, is the xml file a safe way to backup the wiki, is every article of the wiki stored in there? I know images and members aren't but I really only care about the text and pages. As a WMF or MH guy [23:22:08] Interesting [23:22:27] A lot of awkward silences in Rivers episode even in the first couple of mins [23:23:52] For MH [23:24:10] Ooooo which ep number [23:24:45] https://betweenthebrackets.libsyn.com/episode-31-john-lewis [23:26:43] Very northern accent [23:34:33] John or the host?
