Mindustry wiki looks gorgeous so I'm stuck there for a while! [05:57:10] awesome [05:57:33] wiki.gg missing out on big money by only allowing ye olde vector [06:09:43] For real. [06:20:33] Yeah [06:20:52] I would guess they would want to bring the customization level on par with the Vector skin, which has a LOT of css variables [06:21:25] True [06:21:49] You only have one skin, but the trade off is ease of customizability and the ability to make really nice themes with it [06:22:18] And they don't have to look too much like vector either [06:22:36] e.g. https://predecessor.wiki.gg or https://undertaleyellow.wiki.gg [06:23:00] nice. I'm not super sure how those templates are build I'm guessing partially with gadgets but rendering wikitext with display none is sure a way to have a bad time [06:24:00] predecessor doesn't even look like Vector damn [06:24:12] Yeah [06:24:23] But I do agree wiki.gg should allow for more skins [06:27:12] https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/407537962553966603/1487337243231256657/image.png?ex=69c8c640&is=69c774c0&hm=eed2ac17fbca0f4995019b09c3198081361a78d1b76a95613a657c50a632acf9& [06:27:22] they even have the syntax highlight button for logged out users [06:27:37] peak [06:28:04] looking at some pages what a beautiful wiki [06:32:40] [1/4] If you wanna sum up the comparison: [06:32:40] [2/4] - Miraheze: supports many skins and highly customizable, but you're not given CSS variables or equivalent tools to easily stylize parts of the wiki [06:32:40] [3/4] - wiki.gg: one skin only, but you're given CSS variables/a tool to easily customize the theme. Highly customizable, but slightly more restrictive than Miraheze in terms of customization policy [06:32:41] [4/4] - Fandom: one skin only, you can easily customize with Theme Designer and custom CSS, but there are heavy customization policy restrictions, especially with more of Fandom's space being used for ads and other shoved garbage [06:33:13] @posix_memalign feel free to add this to your comparison of wiki hosting services [06:33:53] PSA: Don't consider fandom. just don't. [06:35:03] "you're not given CSS variables" is misleading [06:35:32] it's not like we chose to not give users that option, its just that most skins dont come with any [06:36:22] also: name a skin other than vector 2022 and citizen that are still being developed [06:36:40] wait.... [07:35:53] but basically infra specialists have full access to all servers whileas mediawiki specialists only have access to limited set of them [07:36:08] uh huh [07:36:09] [1/2] TBH I'm sure there are plenty of college first/second years who are looking for internships but can't get any in this economy. They'd be down for anything that they can put in their resume. [07:36:09] [2/2] The barrier of entry in the MW ecosystem is also very low. No need to know any fancy frameworks. Some basic CSS and vanilla JS would suffice. [07:36:26] just nod and smile like you get what they're saying [07:37:20] [1/2] you can also think of mediawiki specialists as someone you call when you get an error [07:37:20] [2/2] and infra for when the servers blow up [07:37:23] <_chrs_> basically it's "the servers that run mediawiki" vs. "literally everything else that supports them" [07:37:58] Some US colleges also pay stipends/scholarships for unpaid internships if the student works for a non-profit btw. [11:46:12] Wiki gone [11:46:36] Why was it deleted [11:46:56] Why was the iNext Wiki deleted from Miraheze [11:46:59] Why [11:47:36] I'm somewhat confused. You seem to be alternating between requesting deletion and complaining about it. [11:48:29] T&S deleted it because it violated there T&S over non-notable living people [11:49:10] So if you already know that then why are you asking? [11:49:16] None of this makes any sense to me. [11:50:02] The concept of answering your own question [11:50:32] https://meta.miraheze.org/wiki/Trust_and_Safety [11:54:26] I'm going to leave you to that then. Once you've made up your mind about what point you're trying to make is when you start trying to justify it. Otherwise you get this, which just makes no sense. [12:38:51] very bad interesting [12:39:41] I figured bad, since it was T&S removed. But very bad is a step beyond that, I take it? Why not put bucket example on dev.miraheze? [17:51:22] [2/2] I think dev.miraheze has more examples and structure to help with bucket examples [17:51:22] Bucket is on Miraheze? [17:51:31] Yeah I have no idea what Bucket is from that announcement [17:51:36] what is bucket [17:51:37] why is Mediawiki.org having no info [17:51:42] one hundred years of weird gloop!!!! [17:51:57] https://meta.weirdgloop.org/w/Extension:Bucket [17:52:10] it's a lightweight extension that serves similar functionality as Cargo or SMW [17:52:13] bucket yaaay [17:52:26] by Weird Gloop, which actually is hosting Minecraft Wiki and more [17:52:28] I literally do not know what any of those terms are [17:52:32] wait are there any advantages in using bucket rather than cargo [17:52:42] yes cargo is so bad [17:52:53] girl u so vague [17:52:55] if you don't know what is does you probably have no need for it is my policy [17:52:56] same here... [17:52:56] it's more lightweight, it's a new foundation than these [17:53:05] Cargo and SMW is just too heavy [17:53:10] echoing this straight from my core [17:53:18] idk what was SEO, but I needed it [17:53:25] so i'd rather know [17:53:26] ng; [17:53:42] the developer of cargo is known for less than ideal code, I'll put it like that [17:53:49] ๐Ÿ˜ญ [17:54:15] and smw is like getting a tank to open a jar of pickles [17:54:15] I sort of wonder when someone put sort of documentation page on MediaWiki.org tbh [17:54:18] isnt SMW like 200k lines [17:54:30] I think I asked them before when the extension is still very early beta phase [17:54:38] that can be fine but the problem is no one knows what those lines do [17:54:43] they say they don't want to write on MediaWiki.org at that moment [17:55:47] up to them, and its not like its completely undocumented [17:55:48] If we have bucket questions should we ask them here or on bucketwiki [17:55:57] does this mean bucket is available as a mediawiki extension as a whole? or has that always been the case [17:56:03] why is it important that people know what does those lines do [17:56:07] you know some of these concerns come from the 3rd party DPL [17:56:08] bucket is a mediawiki extension wdym [17:56:20] oh i thought it was wg exclusive [17:56:22] how do you fix something you dont know anything about [17:56:23] when their documentation is completely independent on, former Gamepedia help wiki [17:56:24] then fandom [17:56:31] it's now also on Miraheze [17:56:38] add another 100 lines [17:56:41] not exclusive no more [17:56:51] uh read the code i guess? [17:56:52] the documentation is sort of near to be "non-existent" [17:57:16] oh this was a test I did of the module [17:57:38] Then we'd have to enable and store data on devwiki [17:57:46] preferably here in #support [17:57:47] whereas bucketwiki we can mess around [17:58:00] how would i use it on non miraheze wikis, i feel like im being so stupid rn im s rorry [17:58:21] install it like you would with any other extension you wanna use [17:58:28] I think WG also don't write doc on MW because they don't actually care about usage outside WG, they don't have enough energy and it's totally reasonable [17:58:49] oh can i only install from the github [17:59:44] i get all my extensions via `git clone` lol [18:02:30] huge news [18:03:55] free buckets for all [18:03:58] ๐Ÿชฃ [18:03:58] also yes please help expand bucketwiki it's still very much in the state of just migrated off of mirabeta [18:07:17] @thewwrnerdguy you da real goat bro [18:07:38] watch him set his nickname to goat [18:09:12] 3. thewwrnerdguy [18:09:46] ๐Ÿ‘€ bucket looks promising [18:10:07] let's hope it doesn't catastrophically break everything immediately [18:10:17] I wonder how feasible it would be to transition from Cargo to Bucket [18:10:29] @thewwrnerdguy thank you [18:10:30] i mean lets see [18:10:57] :) [18:11:31] it works off lua so you should be able to use it without having to replace bucket immediately [18:11:36] [1/3] depends on whether you're doing with it [18:11:36] [2/3] if you're just storing data it is 300% possible and I cannot recommend it enough [18:11:36] [3/3] -# and I don't actually know what other cracked stuff cargo does so I can't speak to that [18:11:37] https://bucket.miraheze.org/wiki/Module:Bucket is probably the easiest start [18:13:03] oh wow [18:13:11] i guess it really is just samsung web app [18:13:18] works on opera mobile [18:13:19] @pskyechology bro u think u can make a bucket for either mutations, npcs, or fishing rods just so i can see exactly what it would look like and how it would work [18:13:23] even though citizen theme is ass on that [18:13:24] when u have the time ofc [18:13:31] did you bully layla yet [18:13:49] absolutely not, update just dropped so ill bring it up later [18:14:00] So does bucket only work with getting data from templates? [18:14:28] [1/2] Yeah the wiki I'm supervising is using Cargo to store data, which is queried by only a few things [18:14:29] [2/2] There have been some requests from users of said wiki to make it easier to "register" data, so the way Bucket goes about it seems really nice [18:14:43] scribunto my beloved [18:15:00] cargo is also evil [18:15:04] Problem now is figuring out how to move like a few thousand rows from Cargo into Bucket [18:15:10] i dont think so? it can pull from modules too i think [18:16:05] im so happy that bucket doesn't conflict with cargo so you can actually dualtime it in the meantime [18:16:14] I do have a question abt character limits [18:16:21] Sold [18:16:30] [1/2] lol? [18:16:30] [2/2] https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/407537962553966603/1487515743716376698/D4DB163C-B5B5-4E7A-A30D-2F3E667BA5BA.png?ex=69c96c7e&is=69c81afe&hm=e1fcc598fed2aac3f420f9b86deed2bd6b3665bde75e4cd6823f56fe8409e727& [18:16:36] Our current bylaws support 4 community director seats, two of which are up for re-election/election each year. Adding more community directors would require a vote of board to amend our bylaws and add more seats. [18:17:06] what is it [18:17:26] character limits are definitely affected by something random but I don't know what [18:17:55] Me every time there's a bucket update [18:18:06] [[T13967]] is what reminds me to ask abt this before actually implementing Cargo for 100bangaiwiki [18:18:07] [18:18:11] [1/2] I know that, but is requesting more seats at an venue like RfC prohibited? [18:18:12] [2/2] And if the RfC passes, would the changes reflect in the current election, or will it be available next election? [18:18:28] (Having such a stacked board is a relatively new phenomenon at MH, we've rarely had more than 3-4 members ๐Ÿ™‚ ) [18:18:38] e.g. https://bucket.miraheze.org/wiki/User:TheWWRNerdGuy/sandbox3 vs https://buckettest.mirabeta.org/wiki/User:TheWWRNerdGuy/sandbox3 , these are the same page [18:18:50] the second question is prob better for the elections committe to answer I think [18:18:51] but character limits hit one and not the other [18:18:55] there's still appointed slots available so i dont think we're in a hurry to expand the board [18:19:01] A community RfC would be advisory only, only the board can amend bylaws [18:19:04] growing fast, might be worth additional representation [18:20:33] question edited, i forgot about the board for a momenbt lol [18:20:54] nope, see https://meta.weirdgloop.org/w/Extension:Bucket [18:21:20] Looked through it, haven't seen any [18:21:22] the column name is limited [18:21:39] good [18:21:46] but the 1,000,000 bytes is to the whole page [18:23:10] There is a limit per bucket put - whatever the DB is able to hold in one row [18:23:24] Fair, though we have at least Raidarr that has announced they don't currently plan to stand for re-election, so there will be an open seat without an incumbent next cycle. [18:24:35] And as skye points out, we have open appointed seats to either free up CD seats, convert to CD, or just generally bring valuable folks into directorship. [18:24:52] Bucket is pretty closely mapped to actual DB tables, that's where most of the limits for the extension come from [18:24:59] (Would love to have Skye among our ranks, for the record) [18:25:36] @notaracham is there somewhere i can read what happened to miraheze in 2023-2024 [18:25:44] @pskyechology thats u boss [18:25:58] https://discord.com/channels/407504499280707585/1260019919643344897/1461903896837619712 skye is really speedrunning MH ranks lol [18:26:02] skye actual miraheze ranks speedrun [18:26:05] lol [18:26:23] we are one steward nomination away from trolling pix [18:26:24] ah ok, based on my 12 seconds of research that's 64KiB maybe? [18:26:39] but either way you can just chunk it if worst comes to worst [18:26:46] [1/2] This covers the high level: [18:26:47] [2/2] https://meta.miraheze.org/wiki/Miraheze_history [18:27:00] Not really worth diving into much more than that [18:27:08] [1/2] How can I set my wiki to default to Dark Mode always, I was designing around it but when accessing it on an unlogged acc it looks awful [18:27:08] [2/2] https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/407537962553966603/1487518419673677954/image.png?ex=69c96efc&is=69c81d7c&hm=438a6ff595b8d0aebfd0d52c0261732fe02a2c0e4a32e2a5ff354623e4e1f147& [18:27:20] [[dev:always dark mode]] [18:27:20] [18:27:26] That sounds right for MySQL, not sure what miraheze is using [18:27:30] huh why [18:28:04] did u even have any wiki knowledge besides editing pages prior to fisch or did u genuinely just fall in love with miraheze because of it [18:28:07] mariadb which has the same limit iirc [18:28:59] my entire wiki knowledge was like 2 minor edits on wp until i started compulsively fixing fischipedia [18:29:17] crazy [18:29:48] [1/2] ๐Ÿค” [18:29:48] [2/2] https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/407537962553966603/1487519089126674543/image.png?ex=69c96f9b&is=69c81e1b&hm=3bf990c32a2d8695135690d30fb188a9c37b831f98397c27e513c15289a79148& [18:31:22] [1/2] ? [18:33:22] thanks [18:35:50] [1/2] it gives no details !! [18:35:50] [2/2] https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/407537962553966603/1487520609175867504/IMG_0737.png?ex=69c97106&is=69c81f86&hm=c7830fc6f0799314ae002ef81f64d6e0bb1ec246f00bc03770a19c92e5c978d1& [18:35:57] wheres the drama wheres the sauce [18:36:07] ๐Ÿ’€ [18:37:17] likely smth very controversial that was shared publically which reflected on the whole org [18:37:25] prob not best to even bring it up [18:37:56] Due to this, Miraheze Limited now demanded a Request for Comments to resolve who should take control of Miraheze. [18:38:19] id argue the context of the "comment" is essential to telling the full story of miraheze [18:39:55] things were DIRE in 2023 [18:40:01] however bad u think they r its 10x worse [18:54:42] Having lived it, it's way less interesting than you imagine [18:54:50] And better to be left in the past. [18:57:03] im very surprised miraheze survived through it [19:03:23] dang the bucket extension looks good [19:06:46] looks way much less complex than cargo [19:07:32] That's the idea, a different lightweight path to make reusable, structured data. [19:07:58] Based on some early tests from our tech folks, the performance is insanely better too [19:09:01] I can save the same piece of data 3000 times on one page it's brilliant [19:11:24] [1/3] What the hell why does the background change when I turn my phone horizontally lol [19:11:24] [2/3] https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/407537962553966603/1487529558075899934/IMG_4863.png?ex=69c9795b&is=69c827db&hm=74d9aee574eefd4efdce9c899713e57281e3e52fb1e41d74b54aaf6b4e5a2ee4& [19:11:24] [3/3] https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/407537962553966603/1487529558432546918/IMG_4864.png?ex=69c9795b&is=69c827db&hm=51ef83cd36cfba86a393f45265db7e1dac458fdd034389d4e099832807664a18& [19:11:41] It is testing though, Iโ€™m using ?useskin=minerva for this [19:12:04] Oh wait I know why [19:12:05] Whoops [19:12:28] [1/3] guys i need some help, i feel like im gonna lose my mind trying to figure this out [19:12:28] [2/3] what element to i need to name to change this text's colour, WITHOUT it affecting other editor text? [19:15:01] Where do you see that? Clicking the "Log in" button shows the login interface, and I get a "Wrong password" error despite being able to log in using the same set of username/password combination from my password manager in Incognito. [20:12:47] Interestingly, I can log in to bucketwiki with an alt and that propagates to other wikis such as meta, but the reverse is not true. [20:12:47] [[Special:CA/PetraMagna]] [20:12:48] [20:13:02] Oh it's the account attach issue [20:13:10] SHUSH LETS MAKE WWR FIGURE IT OUT AND FIX IT [20:14:32] heyyyyy @thewwrnerdguy i have a bub fix for you to do [20:15:36] yay fun yippee [20:18:53] [1/2] what does this Vector 2022 flag do? [20:46:34] unless it is trying to (awfully) implement MediaWiki's colors here [20:46:39] lol what my wiki reminds you of THAT? [20:47:15] [1/3] I donโ€™t knowwwwโ€ฆ.. [20:48:57] path [20:49:20] Pah - my wiki needs a computer so good you can worldedit 1m blocks ata time ๐Ÿ™‚ [20:49:40] remove everything that makes the wiki lag [20:49:51] okay but then the wiki will just be [20:49:52] bland [20:50:10] learn JS and make a performance mode [20:50:27] It might be the moving clouds at the top but eh [20:50:38] anything that moves would do it [21:47:22] Does miraheze has any extension that allows filtering on table content? [22:00:54] https://dev.miraheze.org/wiki/Template:FilterTable [22:06:25] [1/2] Thanks ๐Ÿ™‚ [22:06:26] [2/2] I only found extensions through googling. [22:38:51] :justanotherdarkmodeuser enjoy the nom on Meta:AN [23:15:21] ooh [23:16:36] holy shit I didn't realised that meant "2 days later" [23:20:08] tbf if i said that on phorge it would've meant 3 years [23:20:20] Her evil foreshadowing /silly [23:22:28] my interpretation was like on the scale of months [23:23:02] is bucket a request or can i just enable it [23:24:09] just enable it [23:24:25] k thanks ๐Ÿ‘ [23:24:38] can cargo and bucket coexist [23:24:42] yes [23:26:57] tried to install some irc software to talk via the relay bot for lulz but couldn't even register an account. I'll stick with Discord ig ๐Ÿ˜ญ [23:28:50] will cargo and semanticmw be obsolete [23:30:23] SemanticMW already can't be enabled without a steward, so surely it already is? [23:30:43] SMW is now DEAD [23:33:00] this is also cool [23:33:51] another wiki admin previously requested some table filtering extensions but they weren't allowed. this seems to do that without any extension dependencies though [23:34:00] seems to be relatively new [23:37:43] [1/3] Why the hell is it different on both chrome and safari (Iโ€™m testing my wiki on mobile, itโ€™s supposed to be like how it looks on chrome) [23:37:43] [2/3] https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/407537962553966603/1487596579639529593/IMG_4884.png?ex=69c9b7c6&is=69c86646&hm=3e41d9e3cdd46b63253852cc83cc83055feb9d9c333dc63cf62616544b571f56& [23:37:43] [3/3] https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/407537962553966603/1487596580218601512/IMG_4885.png?ex=69c9b7c6&is=69c86646&hm=6703e6576a6e4dc46fec851421f6758a486fa49499edec5022cc5848c63aaa4b& [23:45:18] Chrome is a little shit sometimes me thinks [23:50:40] [1/2] Tech changed things a bit recently and SMW now receives more scrutiny. Only wikis migrating from another service that need SMW to keep the wiki working can have it enabled. New wikis that do not have a previous dependency cannot. [23:50:40] [2/2] Cargo can still be enabled and used, though I'd imagine a common question would be "why do you need Cargo when Bucket exists". Considering Cargo's long list of security vulnerabilities (and some other issues) we'd definitely prefer Bucket over Cargo. [23:51:47] SMW shot dead in the bronx [23:53:58] So the long term plan is to have wikis convert to bucket, then no longer allow the enabling of cargo on new wikis unless theres an issue with bucket or its for some reason needed, then evenually get rid of cargo/smw altogether? [23:55:32] iirc smw is a hard no unless a migrating wiki requires it to function [23:55:44] yeah ive heard [23:55:59] mainly referring to the future of cargo [23:59:06] oh it was literally 1 message above [23:59:31] This reminds me when i asked to enable flow in my wiki [23:59:42] And then "huh it was obsolete?"
