[06:13:55] Hi all, my name is Davit, I'm from the Community Resources team, WMF. We have recently migrated our cr-grants-team-metasync tool from the Stretch Grid Engine because of the WMF's plan to deprecate the Grid Engine. However, after moving the tool, we have challenges with the emailing/reporting system. The tool is here: [06:13:55] https://toolsadmin.wikimedia.org/tools/id/cr-grants-team-metasync [06:13:56] In the past, the tool would send an automatic report email after completing the job every day. Since the move to the new infrastructure, jobs are executed in a container. That container does not have a mailer available and throws sh: 1: /usr/sbin/sendmail: not found error. Our developers said that they could not influence the container's setup. [06:13:56] This reporting system is significant because it shows which grants are synced correctly. Can someone help me understand what we can do to resolve this issue? [06:17:00] DSaroyan-WMF: when moving I had to change it from localhost to mail.tools.wmflabs.org [06:17:23] See https://wm-bot.wmcloud.org/browser/index.php?start=04%2F04%2F2022&end=04%2F04%2F2022&display=%23wikimedia-cloud [06:20:45] You can also move to the buster grid instead of toolforge-jobs until you fix it [06:21:04] Strech will go sooner as is the priority [06:30:42] Thanks RhinosF1! I'll pass on this info to our developers. [06:31:37] Okay, I'm not around until 4 uk time after anytime now but they'll be lovely probably more qualified people able to help the rest of the day [22:54:25] Hello team, I need to create a CloudVPS instance. I'm logged into Horizon's web interface and I already have the 'projectadmin' but I can't seem to find how to create the instance. [22:55:13] Should I hit the Compute API Endpoint URL listed in Horizon's interface? If so, what payload should I use? [22:57:49] did you follow the instructions at https://wikitech.wikimedia.org/wiki/Help:Cloud_VPS_Instances#Before_you_create_a_Cloud_VPS_instance ? [22:59:30] One thing I notice is that every time I access Horizon I get this error: Error: Unable to retrieve limits information. and Details show this: 'totalVolumesUsed' [22:59:40] AntiComposite: Yes, I followed those instructions. [23:03:09] I can't see the 'Click the Launch instance button.' listed here: https://wikitech.wikimedia.org/wiki/Help:Cloud_VPS_Instances#Create_a_Cloud_VPS_instance [23:09:28] denisse: I'm sorry about the 'unable to retrieve limits' thing but I think you can safely ignore that. The first thing is to make sure you've selected the right project (there's a drop-down menu in the upper left for that). [23:09:54] Once the right project is selected, there's an 'instances' tab on the left which should display a list of instances and a button to create a new one. [23:10:11] ... probably you've done all those things already but that's at least a start [23:11:29] andrewbogott: Thanks Andrew, I confirm I have selected the right project (monitoring) and I can see a list of instances and view their logs however, I can't seem to see the button to create a new instance. [23:14:03] ok, let me check a few things. You're seeing a table with headers Instance Name/Image Name/IP Address/Flavor/etc. right? And a filter above that? [23:16:23] denisse: it looks to me like you are not actually projectadmin there. Can you tell me about who added you or what the process was? [23:16:36] You're in the project but only with the 'user' right. [23:18:20] andrewbogott: That would make sense. The process was talking with herron about creating a new netmon instance to see if the Puppet role works as expected with Debian Bullseye before deploying my changes to our current netmon instances. [23:19:04] ok [23:19:22] re what I can see: Yes I can see what you mention except for the button to create a new instance. Is there a tool I could use to securely share a screenshot with you? Asking as it may be good to keep it WMF Staff only. [23:19:23] I'm curious if herron added you as projectadmin and something went wrong or if he just only added you as a user. [23:19:43] No need to share a screenshot, I think I know what's happening. One moment... [23:19:57] I can ask herron about that, one moment please. [23:21:00] can you try switching your project-selector to bastion and back to monitoring, and then see if the 'create' button is there now? [23:23:07] denisse: ^ [23:25:30] general comment about screenshots. _if_ you ever need to share one.. you can drag & drop image files from your desktop into Phabricator ticket comments or pastes. they will be public but that's ok unless there are special circumstances or secrets involved [23:27:10] you can also use https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/file/ directly [23:27:40] I never remember quite how to do that and wind up just opening the image as its own browser tab :( But it is possible, on the second try :) [23:30:05] one thing is if you create a paste or ticket, you can't drag directly into that. you need to create it and then drag into a _comment_ on it. probably that [23:30:26] direct file upload seems like a good idea [23:30:44] right, I always think I'm going to be able to paste an image which doesn't work at all [23:31:25] andrewbogott: I confirm I can see the 'Launch Instance' button now, thank you very much! [23:31:42] denisse: sure thing -- it was just the projectadmin role that you needed :) [23:31:51] lmk if you run into any other trouble [23:32:06] AntiComposite, mutante: Thanks for the suggestions!
