[07:32:21] [telegram] Hey @djhartman, regarding the recent post in the Diff blog about the videojs integration (https://diff.wikimedia.org/2022/07/27/wikimedia-media-playback-now-brought-to-you-with-video-js/), I wonder what is the status of ogv.js (https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:TimedMediaHandler/ogv.js). Is it still used? [07:35:44] [telegram] The content linked to that mw.org subpage was moved to a /Notes page back in 2018, and then deleted by you earlier this year (https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:TimedMediaHandler/Notes), so now it's unclear whether the ogv.js subpage is still up to date or not [07:37:05] [telegram] Depending on the status, we might need to also update the info of the second paragraph here: https://github.com/brion/ogv.js#current-status [08:53:46] [telegram] I'd like to crate an app like wikishootme for openstreetmap instead of wikidata. The app should scan osm data at my location for missing `wikimedia_commons` tags and then give me the possibility to take a picture, upload it to commons and it will then be added as a value for the tag. Problem is that I am new to Android programming, I only have some JavaScript and PHP experience. I also don't know how much ti [09:58:14] [telegram] Yes it is used on old macs and on iPhone and iPad (re @waldyrious: Hey TheDJ (@djhartman) — regarding the recent post in the Diff blog about the video.js integration (https://diff.wikimedia.org/2...) [09:59:30] [telegram] Oh cool, thanks. Do you think it should be mentioned in the main extension page? I mean, there should be a link go the /ogv.js subpage somewhere... (re @djhartman: Yes it is used on old macs and on iPhone and iPad) [10:35:00] [telegram] Thanks!! I'll check it out. (re @haleywmf: I will check on that. In the meantime, there is a blog post from the Wikimania organizers about it. My understanding is that the...) [17:10:30] [telegram] I suppose a question is does it need to be a native Android app, or can you do it like WikiShootMe as a "web app?" This would have the advantage of being cross platform by default, though a bit more of a nuisance to make sure it works on a variety of browsers (re @mbrandtner: I'd like to crate an app like wikishootme, but for openstreetmap instead of wikidata. [17:14:50] [telegram] (not instead of commons, in addition to. so then users have one stop shopping if they contribute to both) [18:35:06] [telegram] These are good questions that need a longer answer, I hope I'll find the time later today. [20:16:44] [telegram] I do see the advantages of a web app, but I don't really feel like that is the thing I want to do out of the following reasons: 1.) I, personally, don't like to use web apps on Android. They don't have the native feel of an App, sessions are often not kept over a long time, they don't/can't use local storage as much as a native app and therefore need more traffic, forget settings, they don't integrate good i [20:27:39] [telegram] Apart from the reasons above I think the thing I want to would not really fit into the wikishootme interface. They only use nodes, I would like to mark objects that are areas as areas. I would also have different colors inside of the filter with a different meaning (red = tag is missing, yellow = image tag is there but not wikimedia_commons, green= wikimedia commons tag is there). There should also be sub fi [20:29:59] [telegram] Yes, this is ugly but it might give you an idea of how this looks inside of my head. A click on a building would give me a modal with short description ("Apartment building\n Jungfernstieg 42") and then a gallery of images from Wikimedia Commons. Below would be an upload button for a new image that would trigger the intent to either upload from phone gallery or take a photo. : https://tools-static.wmflabs.or [20:32:41] [telegram] I think the biggest problem of this is that I have many many ideas in my head what this thing should do (e.g. choose Commons categories automatically based on location and object type) but am lacking skills and time. And another problem is that this might be too OSM-centric for a Wikimeida Hackathon. (re @mbrandtner: Yes, this is ugly but it might give you an idea of how this looks inside of my head. A click [21:00:29] [telegram] hackathons have a pretty broad scope (re @mbrandtner: I think the biggest problem of this is that I have many many ideas in my head what this thing should do (e.g. choose Commons cat...)
