[10:25:24] is anyone else planning to travel to the hackathon by ferry? I’m wondering if a /Ferry subpage of [[Wikimedia Hackathon 2023/Travel]] would make sense [10:43:52] /Ferry [10:44:13] /Ferry [11:24:28] how do people combine travel with a scholarship with personal travel? it seems silly to travel all the way to athens and then not spend any time visiting the city but the travel request form sounds like they'll only book flights on the dates given [12:52:22] Any improvement to the travel page is very welcome :) I'm not sure if creating a new sub-page or section by transport mode makes sense because the trip may include a combination of train, ferry and/or bus, so maybe expand the "travel by train" section or create some kind of a "travel from European countries without taking a plane" section? (re @lucaswerkmeister: is anyone else pl [12:52:23] anning to travel to the hackathon by ferry? I’m wondering if a /Ferry subpage of [[Wikimedia Hackathon 2023/Tra...) [12:54:42] Its added below the logos [12:57:06] I have indicated I want to arrive a day earlier in the travel form and added a bit of explanation about the extra day (that I will arrange one hotel night myself). Haven’t gotten a response yet but I think that’s the way to do it (re @Nikki: how do people combine travel with a scholarship with personal travel? it seems silly to travel all the way to athens and then no...) [13:01:35] /Ferry [14:56:24] Adding extra days are a possibility, but the scholar must bear all the extra costs, including additional cost for transports due to the date deviation. You can prepare your travel plans then add them to the travel form when you fill it out. (re @Nikki: how do people combine travel with a scholarship with personal travel? it seems silly to travel all the way to athens and then no...) [15:24:52] that's what's not clear to me. travelling on the days specified is expensive, so a flight on a different day should be cheaper, but it's not clear whether it would be paid for if it's not on the right day (re @Auregann: Adding extra days are a possibility, but the scholar must bear all the extra costs, including additional cost for transports due...) [16:17:29] I had an idea earlier about combining this with a personal travel in the area but scrapped that idea because it was unclear how to do that best. 🤷‍♂️ (re @Nikki: how do people combine travel with a scholarship with personal travel? it seems silly to travel all the way to athens and then no...) [17:16:43] Travel in general is okay with lower flight costs. 😉 [17:16:43] Extended stay at the hotel etc. you'll have to book yourself. [17:16:44] They will come back to you after you fill out the form. At least that has been my repeated experience. (re @Nikki: that's what's not clear to me. travelling on the days specified is expensive, so a flight on a different day should be cheaper, ...) [17:18:10] Talking from recent travel as well (not just pre-Covid) I had them book a travel for me that way last month when I wanted to come a day earlier. [19:22:30] Hello all, [19:22:31] [19:22:32] Sharing a few updates related to the Hackathon: [19:22:34] [19:22:35] *Registration:* If you have already registered to attend the Hackathon in May, please confirm your attendance as soon as possible. You may have received an email already with instructions on how to proceed (see email sent by hackathon@wikimedia.org on March 13th). Some slots are also available for folks who want to register and manage their own travel and stay. [19:22:37] [19:22:38] *Satellite events*: If you are interested in organizing a local or online satellite event around the hackathon, you can apply for a grant until *March 20th*: https://diff.wikimedia.org/2023/03/13/organizing-a-wikimedia-hackathon-2023-satellite-event/. [19:22:40] [19:22:41] *Session proposals:* Unlike the previous years, the organizers will set the session agenda in advance and cannot accommodate a first come, first serve format as there are limited rooms in Athens. If you will be attending the event on-site and considering proposing a session or workshop, now is the time :) The deadline to submit a proposal is *April 4th*. [19:22:43] [19:22:44] More information is available on the Hackathon wiki: https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Wikimedia_Hackathon_2023. TY! [20:08:38] * bd808 wonders why wm-bb did not relay the message that was only a URL [20:10:02] possibly some spam filter on the Telegram side, I think it’s been mentioned before [20:10:41] https://lists.wikimedia.org/hyperkitty/list/wikitech-l@lists.wikimedia.org/thread/HEEVZUUEFWY5OCKKBI73EYK6NSADO5IU/. [20:11:00] works for me, but I have superpowers in the channel too. [20:43:31] The Telegram channel is setup to only allow one post per user every 10 seconds. The bridge software got "SendMessage failed: Too Many Requests: retry after 9" from Telegram's API. Unfortunately it does not appear that the matterbridge software we are using for the bot knows how to retry when rate limited. It just logs the message and moves on. [20:44:18] I'm digging around to see if I can find any docs on how to grant a user an exception to the rate limit, but so far no luck. [21:14:36] [humans ignore] Testing changes to the @wm-bridgebot user config in this channel. [21:14:36] [humans ignore] Will this second message in very short time make it to Telegram? [21:15:09] * bd808 sees both on the Telegram side and does a happy dance [21:18:53] When bots start writing "humans ignore" is it the time to start getting concerned? 😁
