[01:01:22] Hi, how do I properly upload copyrighted images to my Wiki? I can't quite figure it out [02:20:21] To which wiki? Your own private wiki? Is that a copyright question or a technical question? (re @Burkalll: Hi, how do I properly upload copyrighted images to my Wiki? I can't quite figure it out) [02:33:49] It's Copyright question, it's kind of a private wiki because no one but me can edit it, but it is viewable to other people (re @Thecladis: To which wiki? Your own private wiki? Is that a copyright question or a technical question?) [02:40:24] Well, IANAL, but basically you need to check the copyright laws of all relevant jurisdictions (most likely your own country, the country where your wiki is hosted and also likely the countries were most of your viewers come from, not sure). What you need to be looking for is what requirements are there to satisfy https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fair_use or the relevant analog of it [02:40:25] . On Wikimedia wikis for that licensing policy, https://foundation.wikimedia.org/wiki/Resolution:Licensing_policy was adopted, which stipulates that if a wiki is to use non-free materials, the wiki has to have an excemption doctrine policy, an example of such policy is https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Non-free_use_rationale_guideline . In case of Wikimedia it mostly revol [02:40:26] ves around the US laws and laws of the materials' origin, in your wiki it might be different. (re @Burkalll: It's Copyright question, it's kind of a private wiki because no one but me can edit it, but it is viewable to other people) [02:41:01] (This chat is not the best place to be asking questions like that, but I do not know where to direct you except for perhaps consult with a lawyer 🤷‍♂️) [02:44:13] Thank you [06:49:59] What if i use template like Template:Non-free use rationale album cover and Attribution details for non free images? (re @Thecladis: (This chat is not the best place to be asking questions like that, but I do not know where to direct you except for perhaps cons...) [07:36:38] If it's non free, then it can't be CCBYSA. (re @Burkalll: What if i use template like Template:Non-free use rationale album cover and Attribution details fo...) [07:37:35] So which one i need to you? (re @IsmaelOlea: If it's non free, then it can't be CCBYSA.) [09:20:43] Every image is _copyrighted_. You need to use whatever _license_ an image is under. (Also, this topic is off-topic here as it's not about hacking.) [14:05:50] The second edition of the Language & Internationalization newsletter (January 2024) is available at this link: https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Wikimedia_Language_engineering/Newsletter/2024/January.
