[05:21:32] العملات المشفرة مربحة، لكن بعض الأشخاص يستثمرون في مشاريع خاطئة [11:28:46] Hi, I'm working on a Java project (with apache client5), I always get an error even though I use BasicCookieStore to store cookies. [11:28:47] `{"login":{"result":"WrongToken"}}` [14:02:27] I already registered i just am asling if it would be the right choice (re @tehreedy: If you can self fund your own travel and accommodation... Registration is still open at https://pretix.eu/wikimedia/hackathon202...) [14:02:41] Choice for what? [14:03:10] To attend. I am fairly new in the world of technology i think maybe i wont be able to do anything there [14:04:16] It's hard to know exactly. You'll get people doing a wide range of technical stuff... People are willing to show, teach, explain etc. There will be "pitches" for people looking for help etc [14:04:28] It's difficult to give a good answer if it'll be good or not [14:04:32] (for you) [14:06:21] But you don't necessarily need to know how to program, but I'm not sure people would have the time to necessarily teach something like that [14:54:44] Thank you very much! [18:17:22] you still have a month and a half to learn but idk how much time you have available between now and then. could start with e.g. http://www.pythonchallenge.com/ and https://diveintopython3.net/ [18:17:23] or [18:17:25] https://exercism.org/ seems interesting but I haven't tried it yet. [18:19:01] do you speak, read, write any other languages besides English? [18:19:02] could be easier to get into translating if you're not ready for programming. either the software itself or the documentation. [18:19:56] Yeah besides English i fluently speak Turkish and Albanian . I know French to an intermediate level and the basics of Spanish and Italisn (re @jeremy_b: do you speak, read, write any other languages besides English? [18:20:07] *Italian [18:20:37] In programming im intermediate in c and a beginner in java how much does that help me [18:31:56] oh huh, that's not the impression I got from previous messages. but ok, great. [18:31:56] do you want to just stick with one of those languages for now? [18:31:58] I figure Gerrit and maybe some part of Android are Java. and maybe something with Hadoop? and I'm probably forgetting something. [18:31:59] Varnish has some custom C stuff https://gerrit.wikimedia.org/r/c/operations/puppet/+/1113592 [18:32:01] Huggle is C++ https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/maniphest/query/dFY64hUU16qu/#R (re @Amanda: In programming im intermediate in c and a beginner in java how much does that help me) [18:36:21] Oh yeah sorry its because i said im fairly new in programming I should have expressed myself better. I only learned them this year for school and I didnt think it would be enough to participate in an hackathon. Thank you so much for all this information ! (re @jeremy_b: oh huh, that's not the impression I got from previous messages. but ok, great. [18:36:22] do you want to just stick with one of those lang...) [19:36:01] As others have said, there are many ways to participate besides programming. [19:36:02] That said, looking for good first bugs might be a nice way to get started in that vein — if you have the time, you could try to tackle some of those between now and the hackathon, and people in this channel would likely be able to at least give you some pointers to help along the way. [19:36:04] Other than that, I can highly recommend contributing to translation as well. It has a lower barrier of entry and the feeling of progress is quite nice (some might even say addictive 😁). Try creating an account at translatewiki.net and doing some translations to see if you like the flow. Raising translation completeness for the languages you speak would be a very [19:36:04] welcome contri [19:36:05] bution to the hackathon! (re @Amanda: Oh yeah sorry its because i said im fairly new in programming I should have expressed myself better. I only learned them this ye...)
