[12:18:01] Did anyone else also receive a phishy looking email asking to pay the first hotel night, coming from a different domain than the hotel reservation? "Greetings from Renaissance Polat Istanbul Hotel, Our hotel sold out for 01st of May. We try 1 night authorization from all credit cards. Your credit card declined, we couldn’t get guarantee." [12:47:07] hi [13:14:04] It wouldn't surprise me if it's legit... But probably best to contact the hotel directly to find out (re @malyacko: Did anyone else also receive a phishy looking email asking to pay the first hotel night, coming from a different domain than the...) [13:14:58] It's not uncommon for hotels to use random domains to send emails [13:20:55] Definitely sounds odd - I've not heard that this is happening and seems unusual that the hotel would send something like this. Please call the hotel directly at the number on their website: +90 212-4141800. If the email you received uses a different phone number, please do not try to confirm your reservation using the potentially fake number. (re @malyacko: Did anyone [13:20:55] else also r [13:20:55] eceive a phishy looking email asking to pay the first hotel night, coming from a different domain than the...) [13:27:07] hrmmmm. also Marriot Android app wants an 8 digit confirmation number to look up a reservation. my number from email isn't long enough. I tried adding a leading zero, no dice. (re @malyacko: Did anyone else also receive a phishy looking email asking to pay the first hotel night, coming from a different domain than the...) [13:29:34] why would they wait until selling out instead of doing that authorization up front when booked? 🎣🎏🐠🐟 (re @tehreedy: It wouldn't surprise me if it's legit... But probably best to contact the hotel directly to find out) [13:32:31] Depending on how long ago it was booked… they usually won’t want a long standing auth (re @jeremy_b: why would they wait until selling out instead of doing that authorization up front when booked? 🎣🎏🐠🐟) [13:32:31] If they cancel that booking, they can charge more to someone else ofc [13:32:31] This is a known issue, which is unfortunate. Please contact travelmanager@wikimedia.org for assistance. (re @jeremy_b: hrmmmm. also Marriot Android app wants an 8 digit confirmation number to look up a reservation. my number from email isn't long ...) [13:34:15] Plus depending on the rate cancellation policy… (re @tehreedy: Depending on how long ago it was booked… they usually won’t want a long standing auth) [14:05:27] Just because your card doesn’t auth, doesn’t mean you can’t pay (cash)… even if the policy is for a card to auth etc [18:56:30] someone here (and in Istanbul) is familiar with this https://github.com/wikimedia/operations-dumps-dcat ? [20:30:14] Other question: someone in Istanbul with knowledge in the inners of Wikisource? [20:30:34] proofreadpage? (re @IsmaelOlea: Other question: someone in Istanbul with knowledge in the inners of Wikisource?) [20:30:46] I think try a Wikidata channel? (re @IsmaelOlea: someone here (and in Istanbul) is familiar with this https://github.com/wikimedia/operations-dumps-dcat ?) [20:32:05] I'm interested in the sw stack, looking for setting up a local instance of MediaWiki with the Wikisource features. (re @jeremy_b: proofreadpage?) [20:33:05] for testing or development? or actual long term usage? (re @IsmaelOlea: I'm interested in the sw stack, looking for setting up a local instance of MediaWiki with the Wikisource features.) [21:27:36] Well, there is a research project interested in a mediawiki with the features of Wikibase (I'm familiar with) and of Wikisource (I'm not familiar). They want to host some hundreds of annotated digitized texts. So, yes, they want long term usage. [21:28:06] But, honestly, I have no idea if anyone has ever installed their own Wikisource at home :-) [21:29:29] are they not in scope for the real Wikisource? (re @IsmaelOlea: Well, there is a research project interested in a mediawiki with the features of Wikibase (I'm familiar with) and of Wikisource ...) [21:31:18] They have some requirements they find unavoidable ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ (re @jeremy_b: are they not in scope for the real Wikisource?) [21:32:23] Wikisource is just Mediawiki and a couple of extensions, right? (re @IsmaelOlea: But, honestly, I have no idea if anyone has ever installed their own Wikisource at home :-)) [21:34:00] Yup. The only extra extensions are: Wikisource and Proofreadpage (re @Jan_ainali: Wikisource is just Mediawiki and a couple of extensions, right?) [21:42:14] well, Wikidata is Wikibase with some extensions.. and it drived me mad for some months 😊 (re @Jan_ainali: Wikisource is just Mediawiki and a couple of extensions, right?) [21:43:09] plus any operating system dependencies, external services? like OCR, etc. (re @Ladsgroup: Yup. The only extra extensions are: Wikisource and Proofreadpage) [22:10:19] OCR comes with ProofreadPage extension (re @IsmaelOlea: plus any operating system dependencies, external services? like OCR, etc.) [22:11:17] you can see all installed extensions and libraries in Special:Version [22:17:18] https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:Proofread_Page#Requirements_and_recommendations [22:18:52] https://en.wikisource.org/wiki/MediaWiki:OCR.js [22:18:52] looks like some parts are on toolforge? [22:19:38] wikisource is a hacked together combination of mediawiki extensions, javascript, and toolforge and/or cloudvps tools [22:19:55] https://tools-static.wmflabs.org/bridgebot/4e11b446/file_70040.jpg [22:53:55] Hello, I would like to gain experience and learn to improve the Karakalpak Wikipedia and Wiktionary in the upcoming Hackathon event. So I really need your help there. I think I will be the only contributor from Karakalpak Wikipedia. [22:53:55] If you can give me some advice on what kind of work I can do, I will come prepared (for example, work on kaawiki's interface and so on). At the moment, I have administrator authority in Karakalpak Wikipedia. [22:53:57] I can't say I have much experience. Thank you. [23:00:23] tell us more about your skills? any particular interests?
