But that is not in Debian stable, or next stable. [11:58:37] I'm a bit curious about this. Why not PHP 8.2? Thanks for any link :3 [12:00:07] I don't want to ask this in the room since I hope to leave space to less-technical Q&A in the room [12:01:15] https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T360995 [12:01:36] Thaanks [12:01:58] https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wikimedia_Foundation_Annual_Plan/2025-2026/Product_%26_Technology_OKRs [12:02:11] It doesn't specifically say why PHP 8.3 [12:07:25] Hi, I’m getting this error when trying to access GitLab: [12:07:25] "Your account is pending approval from your GitLab administrator and hence blocked. (re @wmtelegram_bot: https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wikimedia_Foundation_Annual_Plan/2025-2026/Product_%26_Technology_OKRs) [12:08:50] Have you just tried to login to GitLab? https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/p/JosefAnthony/ suggests you're in Trusted-Contributors already, which will give you the right, but it may take the bot a few minutes to update (re @JosefAnthony: Hi, I’m getting this error when trying to access GitLab: [12:08:51] "Your account is pending approval from your GitLab administrator and he...) [12:10:35] yes i did. Okay i guess i will just have to wait for a few minutes. thanks for your help. [12:19:57] The automatic approval only works if you've linked your Phabricator and developer accounts. You can do this in the "External Accounts" settings while logged in to Phabricator (re @JosefAnthony: okay, thanks) [12:24:24] okay great, let me try it out. thanks (re @AntiComposite: The automatic approval only works if you've linked your Phabricator and developer accounts. [13:28:57] In theory you should see a banner on Wikimedia GitLab. Which URL did you end up on; did it not show that banner to you? [13:55:49] interface down : https://tools-static.wmflabs.org/bridgebot/386c1803/file_72807.jpg [14:15:42] Thanks for the clarification. [14:35:13] does it drop further out of the ceiling because it's used a lot? is that PoE? (re @ChlodAlejandro: interface down) [14:42:58] It's poe, and yes, from ^ it dropped to the ground (re @tehreedy: ) [14:43:40] yeah but I mean is it actually correlated with usage? packets weighing it down? [15:15:07] WMF has a CTO? (re @bozzy: Our CTO announced PHP support 8.3. But that is not in Debian stable, or next stable. [15:15:08] I'm a bit curious about this. Why not PHP 8...) [15:16:57] Ah. They call this role [15:16:58] "Chief Product and Technology Officer" so I would say yes (re @nemoralis: WMF has a CTO?) (re @alchimistawp: I'm having a problem with the split function, anyone familiar with pizza?) [16:59:15] Seems not. The question is, do they have python out of the box?? (re @jeremy_b: I guess should be API compatible with Java. do they have coffee at the venue?) [17:03:33] The container hasn't rusted, so the python should still be c-cure. P [17:05:14] If no one answered the PHP question, I think the brief answer is that 8.2 has some issues that make it inappropriate for WMF production use. Also PHP is on a twice/year schedule and we'd like to move WMF to a once/year PHP upgrade schedule, so that implies 8.1, 8.3, 8.5 etc. [17:07:03] But all these plans are somewhat aspirational, given that we've historically taken much longer than a year to shift PHP versions. It's quite possible PHP 8.3 would be in Debian by the time were actually ready to switch over, and I expect initial tests are probably done with unofficial packages. [17:16:13] given that trixie is scheduled to release tomorrow, and includes php8.4, I think it’s even virtually certain that there’ll be a PHP≥8.3 in Debian stable before WMF switches to it ;) [17:17:12] (but also, I just realized that I probably misunderstood the original question – I thought it was referring to a non-WMF deployment, sorry) [17:27:39] same? (re @lucaswerkmeister: (but also, I just realized that I probably misunderstood the original question – I thought it was referring to a non-WMF deploym...)
