[12:13:50] Technical question: does NoScript extension interfere with some components of Wikimedia platform? [12:14:11] Under its default profiles (re @cvictorovich: Technical question: does NoScript extension interfere with some components of Wikimedia platform?) [12:33:44] Sure, NoScript interferes with websites. That is what it is made for. [13:02:18] But I meant make Wikimedia platform function incorrectly [13:03:13] The tool definitely interferes with websites, but I’m not sure if it breaks Wikimedia sites (re @cvictorovich: But I meant make Wikimedia platform function incorrectly) [13:05:21] That’s to say, break some intended functionalities (re @cvictorovich: The tool definitely interferes with websites, but I’m not sure if it breaks Wikimedia sites) [13:06:12] I mean, that depends on what you mean by incorrectly? There's a no JavaScript mode built into MediaWiki for old browsers. That means there are probably some things that won't work the same by design. [13:06:53] Global logins are essential (re @lcawte: I mean, that depends on what you mean by incorrectly? There's a no JavaScript mode built into MediaWiki for old browsers. That m...) [13:07:03] See "General information" on https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Compatibility I'd say [13:07:31] And, some JS from Wikimedia sites, rather than elsewhere [13:07:49] what's your actual question / underlying problem? [13:10:08] I’m deciding that if it doesn’t interfere with normal functioning of Wikimedia sites, I would install it on my browsers [13:10:29] If something would be broken by it, then I won’t install (re @cvictorovich: I’m deciding that if it doesn’t interfere with normal functioning of Wikimedia sites, I would install it on my browsers) [13:11:44] See the link that I posted. Something will likely break. [13:11:51] Can't you exclude domains? [13:17:52] Try it out and see what happens. FWIW, a lot of basic functionality on MediaWiki like logging in, reading and editing work without JavaScript because they still support HTML forms. This includes global login, at least ever since the switch to SUL3. But this will inevitably have issues for the newer Vue/Codex-based forms. For example, Special:Block requires [13:17:52] JavaScript to work. (re [13:17:53] @cvictorovich: Under its default profiles) [15:10:39] yes try it and see, addon installation and removal are cheap and you can do it in a separate testing browser profile if you want. [15:10:39] I haven't tried noscript in many years. recently I started playing with ublock origin. (re @ChlodAlejandro: Try it out and see what happens. FWIW, a lot of basic functionality on MediaWiki like logging in, reading and editing work witho...) [21:18:55] I would furthermore encourage you to document your findings in MediaWiki.org :)
