[15:03:59] <jhathaway>	 anecdotally when working on jaeger, replacing the underlying base image with debian was a pretty straightforward, but it does take a bit of time to determine for each component how best to pull down or build a binary in a secure manner

[15:09:46] <jhathaway>	 for jaeger I reused the signed artifcats, and didn't rebuild them, except for the index cleaner which they don't publish. That required a bit more work, but since it was a go build it was pretty easy. I have heard others mention that rebuilding a complex java artifact can be very challenging
