[00:04:45] marostegui: I believe replica groups in MW are mainly a hint, not a directive or requirement. It weight heavily into the overal list of replicas, but some amount of traffic should still end up on other replicas under various conditions afaik. It also tends to be local to each code path and was (originally) meant for types of queries, not types of traffic sources, so certain common/simple queries might come from shared code paths that don't [00:04:45] specify any replica group one way or the other. [00:05:36] after T263127 we will basically only have api, dump and vslow, so maybe for api and dump we could consider some kind of global flag for the whole process/request if that's what we want. [00:05:37] T263127: Remove groups from db configs - https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T263127 [00:05:44] but right now that's not how it works. [04:37:36] Krinkle: ah got it. thanks for the explanation. for some traffic I guess it is fine, but vslow, dumps can cause some replication lag, so we always try to keep them isolated [14:27:26] _joe_: https://twitter.com/CarleyLBrown/status/1412531650353930241 :D
