[07:30:08] I am just wondering how can we find a way to make Wikimedia servers censorship resistant [07:31:04] We certainly can do something instead of just waiting for GFW to continuously block all wm sites [07:31:38] I tried to reach out to a SRE member by email, but they ghosted me afterwards [15:24:42] So what should we do? What should we propritize? [15:25:34] Several months ago I started a discussion on Chinese Wikipedia about the possibility to create official **editable** mirror sites to evade censorship [15:26:18] And people are just wondering if WMF is willing to play such cat-and -mouse games [15:26:30] s/// [15:27:43] diskdance[m]: is there a task? [15:27:58] And which SRE member [15:30:48] RhinosF1: It's [[User:SSingh (WMF)]] [15:31:32] And regarding that discussion give some time to search though the archives [15:31:33] * discussion give me some time [15:32:17] https://zh.wikipedia.org/wiki/Help_talk:%E5%A6%82%E4%BD%95%E8%AE%BF%E9%97%AE%E7%BB%B4%E5%9F%BA%E7%99%BE%E7%A7%91#%E6%8F%90%E8%AE%AE%E8%AE%BE%E7%AB%8B%E5%AE%98%E6%96%B9%E7%BB%B4%E5%9F%BA%E7%99%BE%E7%A7%91%E9%95%9C%E5%83%8F%E4%BE%9B%E5%9B%BD%E5%86%85%E7%9B%B4%E8%BF%9E%E8%AE%BF%E9%97%AE%E5%92%8C%E7%BC%96%E8%BE%91 [15:35:13] diskdance[m]: I'm sure they didn't intentionally ignore. Try creating a task and tag #traffic if there isn't one [15:40:41] "diskdance: I'm sure they didn'..." <- Thanks. But what I don't want to see is that the task may end up just being there for years. So I came here mainly to ask feasibility of this, and what alternative path should be chosen if it's not feasible [15:42:15] diskdance[m]: it's sunday so they won't be working [15:42:15] Here on a weekend probably is not the right place to be asking [15:42:48] Oh, so when and where should I ask then? [15:42:56] You might be better starting a mailing list thread, or even bringing it up as a more strategic discussion on somewhere like meta [15:43:17] An individual SRE probably isn't the right person to get the funding and time put onto a project like that [15:43:53] I'm not sure whether such discussion should be made public as the censor would know it [15:44:23] You say that like they couldn't be in here watching :) [15:44:41] Anyway, thank you for your advice [15:44:56] I will try these solutions [17:04:10] diskdance[m]: I am sorry that you felt I ghosted you, that was certainly not my intention [17:04:30] As per the last discussion we had, and like I said shared, we are actively working on this and have a few projects underway. There is no exact timeline though for a variety of reasons and hence it's hard to commit to something [17:06:05] I don't want to say "we will do X" because it might not turn out to be the case [17:06:15] I will follow up on that private task once we have an update. But it is very much on our roadmap and planning [17:06:31] thanks for checking in and reminding us [21:52:29] Thank you!
