[09:09:35] https://www.lilysthings.org/blog/windows-on-btrfs/ not sure if evil or genius, but they have a setup where they can boot linux or Windows off the same btrfs filesystem... [09:20:31] I love the comment: "I see absolutely no way that this could go wrong " [11:09:25] w00t [11:23:13] FYI, the release date for the next Debian release has been announced: 2023-06-10 https://lists.debian.org/debian-devel-announce/2023/04/msg00007.html [11:23:47] moritzm: I'm not sure if that's exciting or scary [11:28:18] only 6 weeks after Ubuntu 23.04, I hope they will have time to backport everything... :) [11:29:00] That's a nice birthday present :-) [11:32:13] RhinosF1: it's the first Debian release which includes cumin! https://tracker.debian.org/pkg/cumin [11:35:22] \o/ \o/ \o/ [12:19:02] moritzm: that's cool [16:43:30] moritzm: I updated the chart at https://wikitech.wikimedia.org/wiki/Operating_system_upgrade_policy#Policy with the bookworm freeze/stable transition date. More date tweaking is welcome there for our EOL for Buster, etc. [16:55:23] moritzm: cool re: release date! so in a few weeks already bullseye will be old. replaced the ??? on https://wikitech.wikimedia.org/wiki/Operating_system_upgrade_policy#Debian_release_cadence [17:19:45] bd808: thanks, I'll add the effective dates next week [18:09:10] herron: re: T335586 if the problem is "notify us on channel X when wiki page Y is edited" then that has already been solved by the IRC bot called "snitch" that is hanging out on wikimedia-tech. if we can find out where its code is and how to deploy then it might be easy. I think that might work better than trying to lock down pages and maintain user groups or send email to user groups. but I [18:09:11] T335586: improve controls for on-call rotation management - https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T335586 [18:09:16] commented on that as well on ticket. [18:22:15] mutante: new protection groups are super easy [18:22:50] Hardest part is coming up with a name [18:23:05] And then not crashing your PC with the size of the config file [18:25:06] RhinosF1: ACK. good. But I think no matter how easy it is there will still be maintenance of adding and removing members of the group. and the alternative would be people just have to be in the right channel to see notifications, self service [18:25:29] mutante: yes [18:25:36] well, or it would be based on existing LDAP groups .. [18:25:45] Don't know if you could do based on ldap groups [18:25:49] You probably can [18:25:52] but if all we need is to _know_ when edits happen.. no real need to lock it down [18:26:04] not sure, that is back to the ticket creators [18:26:16] I don't know which of the ldap extensions Wikimedia users [18:26:17] valuable input though, RhinosF1 . ty [18:26:26] feel free to put it on the ticket [18:27:39] mutante: https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T335586#8814143 [18:28:38] RhinosF1: ;) heh, thanks [21:34:45] i have a question about adding hostnames for mgmt ip addresses in netbox (first time doing it) [21:35:15] there are 2 new hosts that were added and their mgmt ips are in netbox, but weren't assigned hostnames. (frauth2002, frbast2002) [21:36:47] i updated the two ips to have the correct DNS name associated with them and saved the records. i then went to run authdns-update expecting that it would pull in the mgmt entries since they are autopopulated from netbox. but they didn't show up. [21:36:52] just wondering if i missed a step [21:38:52] dwisehaupt: see https://wikitech.wikimedia.org/wiki/DNS/Netbox#Update_generated_records [21:39:28] looking. [21:39:51] ah. that's an issue. i don't have access to run cookbooks. [21:39:52] I _think_ it's the sync between netbox and DNS repo.. at least sounds like it [21:40:15] but I never manually add mgmt records.. so just a hunch [21:40:33] it might be special case for fr [21:41:32] usually they are added by dc-ops before handing off to us. but they already got handed off so i figured they were ok. just trying to be proactive and looks like i hit my limit of usefulness. :) [21:42:48] i can ask in the dcops channel to see if i can get someone to run it. thanks! [21:43:04] dwisehaupt: I'm afraid this is also https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T334154 [21:43:16] yea, that's good [21:43:19] heh. yup. :)
