[08:00:15] marostegui: are you oncall this week? [08:00:20] yes [08:01:29] hello buddy! [09:28:14] XioNoX: thanks for checking i also pinged lmata as things look right to me in victor ops either way im around today os not a big issue if things get routed this way for today [09:50:58] I'm around too, no worries [13:04:55] Hi, I’m getting my day started but will follow up soon on this. [15:18:49] Amir1, effie: i scheduled the VE switchover for all remaining wikis for Thursday [15:20:51] duesen: what time? [15:27:44] effie: 13:00 utc [15:35:09] οκ, mind if I add a calendar event (even though it is a scheduled window) [16:31:00] effie: sure, please do [16:31:14] effie: actually, i already have one on my calendar, I can invite you [16:31:27] please do [17:14:14] I am using the makevm cookbook to create a new VM and then it says "ATTENTION: desctructive action for host" and wants me to confirm.. that is a bit unexpected when creating something new from scratch [17:16:58] mutante: that's just because it calls the reimage cookbook to install the OS [17:19:01] volans: alright, ack, I continued. seems fine, testing with os==bookworm [17:30:51] volans: maybe we can arrange to suppress the "destructive action" warning when it's a new host? that way people don't get in the habit of ignoring it [17:44:30] rzl: we can skip it if --new is set, it shouldn't be too risky as if the host is in puppetdb it will ask for confirmation [17:44:56] nice, yeah [17:44:58] *but* if the host has been wiped from puppetdb (say because was powered off for 2 weeks) then it will be a destructive action without that warning [17:45:12] mmm, that's true [17:45:33] and if it's not in puppetdb, we also can't easily check to see if it's insetup or some other signal like that [17:46:34] everything can be checked, not sure if worth the effort, I don't have a strong opinion on this [17:47:58] nod [20:24:31] I tried to install a bookworm ganeti VM with makevm but I could not get it work. The makevm cookbook itself doesnt have a --new parameter, but it then uses the reimage cookbook and tries to check for the new host in puppetdb.. cant find it.. tries 50 times.. eventually once all those fails it gives up and removes DNS entries again [20:25:01] runnign the reimage cookbook directly with --new fails because it then doesnt exist in DNS (anymore) [20:26:26] later the cookbook gets to "failed to run sre.dns.netbox" [20:27:18] though when telling it to "retry" it works.. and removes the host
