Ideal would be a transparent data source that has more resolution recently and lower in older. Afaik Prometheus is designed to not assume a particular frequency (unlike graphite). But I'm also seeing some  assumptions fall apart in subtle ways that require a lot of settings in each panel for a single query to work, and even then the size of your browser
