[20:23:29] Will Google get influence in Wikifunctions when they support the Development team of Wikifunctions through staff as I read in the Newsletter. https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Abstract_Wikipedia/Updates/2022-04-12 For me the independence from Big Tech Companies is important. [20:24:05] Thank you for asking this question non-conspiratorially [20:25:25] If someone is thinking about something 40 hours a week for six months and they don't come up with a single improvement on the current plans (and hence influencing) they probably did not add much value to the project at all. [20:26:56] I'm guessing it's important to draw the distinction between the software that Wikifunctions will run on and Wikifunctions the content [20:31:50] It's not going to be some kind of work like moving parts from point A to point B. I would guess that most solutions will be novel, and hence influencing the design of the system in some way. But will it be _Google_ doing it that, or is that just emerging from clever people working? [21:37:34] Hi Hogü-456, thanks for your question. The Fellows will work under the direction of the project's staff, and most of their effort will be directed towards the backend. Each fellow will work for around six months, offering their expertise, help, and suggestions, but they will not be taking over any teams, positions or projects. Of course, all of their eventual contributions will be released under the same free licenses as the work [21:37:34] done by Wikimedia Foundation employees.
