(re @Sannita: Next Wikifunctions & Abstract Wikipedia Developers-Volunteers' Corner will be held Monday 5 December, at 18:30 UTC (https://zone...) [18:06:04] This is something that I support. Wikimedia Germany has a license from BigBlueButton-Server. This is a hoster of BigBlueButton. I think it is possible to ask them if you are allowed to use their account for this event. As an alternative there is in Germany Senfcall. This is also a BigBlueButton instance and operated from a German Non-Profit-Organization called Computerwerk Darmst [18:06:04] adt. So there are alternatives that run after my expierence stable. [21:25:41] (If there are rooms for using FLOSS and especially avoid Google services, I am always in favour of such a move) [21:50:20] I wish we could, too. I'll note that we (across the Foundation) regularly try out other services, especially Jitsi, but we've *always* had the problem where some people experience severe connectivity-issues - I.e. sound and/or video breaks for them in both directions, and it isn't due to their local connection failing, and it happens many times during a ~1hour meeting. :( [21:50:24] However, perhaps this is a good time to re-test. I'll get something setup for the following meeting in January. [21:54:59] That is strange. We have a Jitsi at my work that we are using every day several hours a day and only very rarely do we have any problems. (re @wmtelegram_bot: I wish we could, too. [22:01:16] We've been testing it for years, so most of my personal experience is from prior to the wmcloud instance (created in 2020). I'm not sure how it was technically configured/hosted in those older days. - For the wmcloud instance, I've only experienced/witnessed the problems once, but I'm aware of the documented note about the problem at the end of https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wikimedia_Meet#Performance and have heard anecdotes from [22:01:16] other teams about the same issue. [22:05:42] Perhaps the problem only becomes apparent when there are either large quantities of people, or when some people are in certain geographic areas (widely distributed? or from areas with less-stable global connections? Not sure.). I think we should test, and update the docs with our experience. :)
