[02:46:11] And in followup to that WIKIMOVE episode, the Newsletter #107: Quo vadis, Abstract Wikipedia? - https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Abstract_Wikipedia/Updates/2023-03-15 [09:49:47] nice write up, I thought that option 4 was the original target? [09:51:19] I understood that abstract entries were for a "wikipedia for robots" and then all projects could adopt it whole or in part (like the article placeholder function which picks from wikidata) [10:11:09] Let's say we're still keeping open all hypothesis [10:11:30] Since there was no debate with communities still, it's only correct to do so [13:25:57] I was giving my initial talks always under the assumption of Option 1, with the caveat that this increase in scope needs to be accepted by the Wikidata community. Option 1 was the original target, but I think you're not the only one who understood Option 4 to be. (re @iamsabas: nice write up, I thought that option 4 was the original target?) [19:19:29] I’m confused about the goal of this newsletter [19:19:41] is the discussion supposed to happen or not? because the text seems to say both, as I read it at least [19:21:17] I suppose it's discussion now but choice later [19:26:52] Yes, I don't think we need to decide very soon, but people should think about it and how they hope it would work as it develops. [22:22:44] I'm not sure how well storing it in wikidata would work. option 4 says a downside of making a separate wiki would be splintering the communities, but I think that will happen wherever it's hosted. even if it's in wikidata, there will be wikidata people who don't care about the abstract content and wikidata people who almost exclusively work on the abstract content [22:23:51] you can see that already in how people build tools that don't work for lexemes, or how commons doesn't pay much attention to the data or timedtext namespaces. putting them in the same project doesn't mean they'll become part of the existing project, as such [22:32:06] and I think the biggest barrier will be the interface rather than where it's hosted (you can always have things like popup dialogs and javascript requests to another server to make it easier to get to)
