[02:52:06] I would like to contribute to Wikifunctions. But I don’t know how. [02:52:18] What should I do to get started? [02:53:10] I have a moderately advanced understand of programming with years of experience in Python and ~3 months in C++ [02:55:22] Are you interested in linguistic functions to help Abstract Wikipedia, or other types of function? [02:56:01] Both. I am interested in Abstract Wikipedia but not as much as general functions [02:56:03] WF supports python and JS, together with a composition language, at the moment. (re @wmtelegram_bot: I have a moderately advanced understand of programming with years of experience in Python and ~3 months in C++) [02:56:42] Ok, good to know. [02:58:28] To start: If you already have a wiki-account, log in, navigate to one of the example functions listed on the front page, and try running it. Then try adding tests to functions you find interesting, then see if there's a function missing that you think should exist, then you get to building implementations. [02:58:55] Ok, thanks so much for entertaining my silly questions. [02:59:56] Tests are particularly useful if the current implementations fail them. They show the other functioneers where there is more work to be done. [03:00:14] 👍 [03:02:06] For example, overnight a user added Z39667 which showed that I needed to improve both the Wikidata representation of a river, and the implementation to ensure it shows a definite article for that river. [03:04:34] For AW: do you speak any languages other than English? There is particular need to extend our WF coverage into other languages, so that AW editors from those languages can read and edit in their languages. [03:10:00] No problem at all. It's not the easiest project to jump into without help. So feel free to ask more questions as you go. (re @wmtelegram_bot: Ok, thanks so much for entertaining my silly questions.) [03:39:51] <[[smlckz]]> Hmm, at some point, you might need a particularly contrived, perhaps constructed, language (Ithkuil comes to mind, or you could even create one specifically for abstract wikipedia) to stress test the language generation system.. [03:41:00] I think the actual languages of the world are enough of a stress test! [10:20:55] Thank you I will try it (re @R1F4T008: Luvoth ig you can use this link to login [10:20:55] https://tabernacle.toolforge.org/api.php?action=authorize) [12:50:54] 7698245031 [12:51:15] 6982450317 [12:51:43] it's just four digits [12:51:48] 6795 [12:51:58] Ah yes [12:52:04] Welcome! [12:52:06] Thanks [12:54:13] Your flag looks like Türkiye? [12:54:41] Yes [12:54:57] I live in İstanbul [12:56:34] Are you interested in working on functions in Turkish, or making Abstract Wikipedia articles about Türkiye? [12:57:52] I am deeply into "Wikipedia" and which is why I try to follow all parts of project. [12:57:52] I am a systems programmer. I like internet and software runs over network. I like GNU Emacs [12:58:50] I know low level coding and some html css js [12:59:11] Of course I need help [13:00:08] What's your role then ? (re @u99of9: Are you interested in working on functions in Turkish, or making Abstract Wikipedia articles about Türkiye?) [13:00:54] 👩‍💻 [13:01:01] :) [13:02:17] I've been working on wikifunctions since it opened, and am trying to help make abstract wikipedia. I'm from Australia. (re @hwpplayer1: What's your role then ?) [13:02:35] It looks like we already have a little article about Istanbul: https://abstract.wikipedia.org/wiki/Q406 [13:03:11] Australia ! My friend from high school lives there [13:03:27] Let me see please [13:03:30] I'm in Sydney. We have a strong Turkish community. [13:04:04] Nice I like being friends [13:04:21] We are Albanian from ex Yugoslavia [13:04:38] We have a multi national background [13:04:51] Serbs Bosnians etc [13:05:11] I'll be back in minutes [13:24:59] Let me try to open that on desktop (re @u99of9: It looks like we already have a little article about Istanbul: https://abstract.wikipedia.org/wiki/Q406) [13:27:46] Yes ! Istanbul :) [13:30:28] Very short so far. [13:35:05] I need to go to bed now. Nice to meet you. [13:35:09] Thanks [13:35:19] Timezone difference yes [13:35:23] have a nice sleep [13:35:41] nice to meet you [14:05:10] @hwpplayer1 May you create some new configurations for Türkçe [14:05:57] Sure, but I need time (re @cvictorovich: @hwpplayer1 May you create some new configurations for Türkçe) [14:12:13] @cvictorovich I need some help ... do you like to start with me ? [14:12:38] Sure. [14:12:42] Thanks [14:13:14] I have account, Then I just need to write an entry right ? [14:13:39] Do you know what are you going to work with (re @hwpplayer1: I have account, Then I just need to write an entry right ?) [14:13:40] I use every Friday Free Software Directory Free Software Foundation Mediawiki instance [14:13:53] No, which is why I asked for help (re @cvictorovich: Do you know what are you going to work with) [14:14:02] I am totally new to this group [14:14:27] But I use Mediawiki for FSF [14:14:58] Which would you prefer, talk here or DDMM me [14:15:15] here is better right ? newcomers might learn then [14:15:46] Look for functions that with names starting with config [14:16:31] suggest a function ? [14:16:56] https://abstract-data.toolforge.org/ [14:17:24] Switch language to Turkish, and you can view what’s still missing in your language (re @cvictorovich: https://abstract-data.toolforge.org/) [14:17:26] Let me read [14:17:27] yes [14:18:10] Especially those functions in configuration section [14:18:32] https://abstract-data.toolforge.org/?lang=tr [14:18:51] They have configs in other languages, which you can refer to and know what’s still missing in your language [14:19:00] And follow their examples (re @cvictorovich: They have configs in other languages, which you can refer to and know what’s still missing in your language) [14:19:28] Mostly, they’re about making up sentences (re @cvictorovich: And follow their examples) [14:22:22] Use your common sense about this language. (re @cvictorovich: Mostly, they’re about making up sentences) [14:22:51] https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Lexeme:L1597722 [14:23:09] Like this Christopher ? @cvictorovich [14:24:08] This is another issue… (re @hwpplayer1: Like this Christopher ? @cvictorovich) [14:24:24] First, is this a word in Turkish (re @hwpplayer1: https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Lexeme:L1597722) [14:24:29] yes [14:24:31] kimyager [14:25:08] Quite off topic here, which is about lexical data. DM me. I work with them heavily. (re @cvictorovich: This is another issue…) [16:36:07] <[[smlckz]]> phew.. guess what is going on in this: https://paste.rs/h7RYE
