[02:20:02] Hello, I'm getting Bad gateway Error code 502 again, sometimes when I refresh It loads. But its running slow, and sometimes I get Gateway time-out Error code 504 . another ddos attack ? [02:36:32] I also am trying to add a user as an Administrator (Special:UserRights) and getting [dcaff08e74887192c257e7ca] 2023-09-16 02:34:20: Fatal exception of type "Wikimedia\Rdbms\DBQueryError" [03:10:46] and now this one: [03:14:42] not seeing it [03:14:45] okay, now it seemed to work. I was able to add the user as an Administrator w/o a database error [03:15:42] You didn't see any issues going on at all? [03:16:17] no database error at least [06:56:46] [1/2] As it's very late for our resident tech, I've created a phorge ticket to track this issue. [06:56:46] [2/2] You can follow progress here: https://issue-tracker.wikitide.org/T10 [08:45:16] [1/2] I was kind of hoping when Agent said "it'll take a few moments" wouldn't take this long. Another full day of editing planned and no website to edit on. Also, regarding the issue tracker, I have been unable to get past the verify email stage, so I can't even follow progress! Javascript is enabled in my browser but yet this is the message I get. I really h [08:45:16] [2/2] oping things would just work. [10:44:21] there is certainly a blocker involved causing that error but I'm surprised there is a need to manually email verify vs being able to log in with wiki account as it was on miraheze [12:28:38] I'm at a loss [12:28:41] sorry for the trouble [12:28:47] Not sure why it's acting up [12:29:46] @borderman.ww1 random thought, is there a way to remove the trailing dot in the namespace records for your domain? [13:57:42] I must humbly apologise. Having looked at your image, I confirm I have mistyped the nameservers, sorry pal...I missed out an "l" - that's somewhat embarrassing. This what happens when I don't wear my glasses! [13:59:35] Is there anything else I need to do at my end? [14:23:59] got the error 500 again [14:24:15] what's going on? [14:25:19] nvm working again, must've caught the tail end of that kind of thing [14:45:32] That's all, your wiki should be working already [14:47:37] hah, don't worry about it, I didn't catch that either [15:09:53] Nope. Not yet. "safari can't find the server" [15:11:52] Try clearing your DNS cache [15:17:52] Yep, confirmed as loading over here, so clearing your local DNS cache should hopefully do it [15:20:11] I don't know what DNS chache [15:20:25] Are you on a windows device? [15:20:32] Masc [15:20:51] Got it, one second, I'll pull the instructions for you [15:22:56] [1/2] This set should work for you: [15:22:56] [2/2] https://www.lifewire.com/flush-dns-cache-on-a-mac-5209298 [15:23:22] Mac is the one I don't have memorized annoyingly [15:24:58] Despite having worked on a mac for many years now, I don't have it memorized either. Just something i have to do so infrequently. [15:25:17] DNS caches can be annoying tho, because there are several hops along the chain which can cache results [15:25:28] I've had to reset my router's cache before to fix issues >.> [15:34:44] Well, I've done it twice as it says but it still doesn't work. I have no idea if I'm doing something wrong or its something else. The terminal doesn't even say if the command has been carried out [15:55:19] [1/2] Yeah... that's unfortunately how Macs are. As the article I linked covered a little later on the exact command varies a bit by mac OS version, so maybe confirm if yours is older than el capitan and try one of those? [15:55:20] [2/2] Another slightly more drastic thing you can try if you have direct access to your router: Unplug router, wait 30s, replug router. If the router's doing any DNS caching, many of those models will drop/rebuild after a power cycle. [16:09:47] New mac last year so just copied the top command. Just unplugged the router, left it about a minute, everything's back on but still cannot find server. This is insane. I had an (almost perfectly) working website two days ago and now I have literally no access. I'm beginning to think the dns caches are a headache [16:10:21] Do you know what DNS server your router uses? [16:10:57] Not a clue, where would I find it? [16:11:11] It would be somewhere in the settings on the admin panel and look like a IPv4 address (X.X.X.X where X is a number between 0-255) [16:11:14] Never needed to know any of this stuff before [16:11:22] What router do you have? [16:11:38] So, before we go down this road... [16:11:39] The URL to access the admin panel is different for each model usually [16:12:10] It's possible that your mac is using your internet provider's DNS service and that they've just got a bad cache stuck. [16:12:34] In this case, there are several free alternate and trusted DNS resolution services that could work instead. [16:12:49] [1/2] To change how your mac is resolving DNS stuff, Apple has instructions here: [16:12:50] [2/2] https://support.apple.com/guide/mac-help/change-dns-settings-on-mac-mh14127/mac [16:13:05] Oh, I see, yes this is likely easier than my 'let's check who's doing DNS in your router' setup [16:13:32] Google's DNS resolution IP is 8.8.8.8, so putting that as highest priority may resolve your issue [16:14:24] Cloudflare's is 1.1.1.1 and is also good/trusted [16:14:49] I'll have a look at the link, no guarantees I'll understand it though [16:16:04] and then AVID got a 502 cloudflare error again [16:17:04] @notaracham Borderman's wiki loads for you correct? [16:17:34] Yep [16:17:54] what should i do [16:18:05] 😮 I just tried to load it, and I've never visited it before, and I've got a bad gateway error from cloudflare. [16:18:16] Yeah, that's service wide [16:18:19] Ah ok [16:18:25] Bad timing 🙃 [16:18:29] @Site Reliability Engineers will be looking into it [16:18:39] /may already be doing so [16:18:57] Bless agent, busy week [16:21:35] There are two dns servers but they are grey out. The first is a set of four numbers, which I think is my router, and the other is string of letters and numbers, I don't know what that that is. [16:22:11] The string of letters and numbers is likely a IPv6 address [16:22:34] seems the database ran out of space [16:22:44] I understand how to add another dns server and have added 1.1.1.1 [16:22:48] Now what? [16:23:39] So I'd suggest running the commands to clear your local DNS cache again (now that you've changed the primary DNS resolver) and then try to reload your wiki. However, you'll likely get a 502 from Cloudflare due to different issues at the moment [16:33:37] Also run the command in Terminal....No change. The greyed out ones are still there if I click on the minus button. [16:42:47] As an afterthought, I get the same thing on my phone and Chromebook. And strangely my partners phone says safari cannot open the page, and she hasn’t even looked at the wiki on her phone before. [16:44:31] Very, very odd... [16:45:11] I'm also currently getting a 'technical difficulties' message, so perhaps let's wait on further testing until Agent's been able to fix DB sizing issues [16:46:22] changed to this "(Cannot access the database: Cannot access the database: Connection refused (db11))" [17:08:56] Alright, your wiki now loads for me again, can you try again? [17:09:13] Proof of life: [17:10:28] I just added 8.8.8.8 as well to the dns and I now have my site back! [17:10:43] 🎉 [17:11:34] Thank you very much for your help @notaracham and @lichmaster98 👍 very much appreciated [17:12:21] Hey, thanks for bearing with us as well. It's never fun to have to get this deep in the weeds to solve problems. [17:12:39] Glad we were able to help. [17:12:53] Yeah, especially when I'm not very tech savvy either! [17:13:24] Well, ya performed admirably and learned some new DNS tricks today too, so not a loss by any stretch. 😄 [17:13:37] AVID IS BACK! [17:14:20] I find the older I get the harder it is to keep up with technology. I still have fond memories of Windows 1.1 [17:16:40] cool [18:09:04] [1/2] Your images for message box are set on: [18:09:04] [2/2] https://thedreamlogowiki.wikitide.org/wiki/Module:Message_box/configuration [18:42:42] Getting back to this, I would still like to be able to register on Phorge but cannot verify my email because of this "email protection'' message in the attachment. Is there anything else I can do to gain access to Phorge? [18:47:31] Hmmm, are you using an adblocking browser add-on by chance? [18:51:15] just safari but I am unaware of any adblocking apps on it [19:06:25] Hmmm. Ah, you mentioned a Chromebook earlier, would it be possible to test email verification on that? [19:11:23] Yes, I’ll try it in a bit, just about eat and watch a movie [19:11:55] No worries. I'm about to head out for a bit myself, just checking in as I am able today [21:01:40] thanks [21:03:26] How do I change it so I can use a custom image though? [23:03:56] Can you link me to a page where the template is in use where you want to modify the icon? [23:15:16] In this case, replace Information icon4.svg with the name of whatever file you intend to use, then save changes. [23:16:22] e.g. if the file you want to use is normally File:Toast.png, replace it with Toast.png
