[10:13:36] running QuickStatement for the first time. [13:02:48] For some reason visual editor only works for the (article) namespace in my wiki, but I want it to work for all namespaces. How can I do that? [13:13:24] Special:ManageWiki/namespaces [13:14:09] Choose the namespaces that you want VE to work then check "Allow VE to work in this namespace" [13:14:23] repeat for every ns [13:15:15] Thx! [17:04:01] and uh by any changes, looking for wiki creators yet? [17:06:01] Elections aren’t open yet as far as I’m aware b [17:06:08] I see- [17:06:34] [1/2] yet the "TypeError" is still there. [17:06:34] [2/2] Phorge task are inevitable. [17:14:10] [[wtphorge:T35]] is ready. [17:14:13] [20:18:36] What is the file upload size limit? [20:21:01] Technically 250mb, practically your file will get refused by time out well before that. [20:21:53] 25mb is about the largest you'd want to attempt, but I'd keep well below that where possible [20:23:12] What is the file upload speed? [20:23:24] (Though, Lake, feel free to corect any of that, you've worked on wiki stuff much longer than I. :D) [20:23:56] [1/2] o [20:23:56] [2/2] I think the default is 250 MB, but I think that on Miraheze it was 100 [20:24:55] [1/2] idk if there's a way to upload-limit specific usergroups, but that would be a good thing [20:24:55] [2/2] especially if your wiki has videos, which is usually the type of thing that consume a lot of space (and bandwidth) [20:25:10] [1/2] Meta has ~200MB [20:25:10] [2/2] [20:25:54] [1/2] anyway, I was going to comment something else [20:25:54] [2/2] when requesting a wiki here, do I have to assign the bureaucrat permissions manually? [20:26:10] You should be assigned bureaucrat permissions upon wiki creation automatically. [20:26:52] [1/3] Hmm [20:26:53] [2/3] I think maybe something bugged here and I didn't get all permissions [20:26:53] [3/3] but I assigned them now and it's working normally [20:27:01] What filetypes are allowed? [20:27:55] Ope, alright then. We have a button I can press to rebuild default permissions in the rare case of failure, but glad to hear you got it sorted. 😄 [20:28:31] Guest28, is there a particular underlying question to the questions you're asking? [20:29:32] I asked questions about file uploading because there doesn't seem to be much information pertaining to that topic on WikiTide Meta [20:30:16] allowed file types are djvu, gif, ico, jpeg/jpg, ogg, pdf, png, svg, webp, ogv & oga, flac, opus, wav, webm, mp3, midi/mid, mpg/mpeg [20:31:10] Speed of upload varies based on a number of factors including which local server you end up connecting to, there's enough there I can't really give you a good range. [20:32:25] A few other file types can be enabled for upload (within certain bounds) but that's at a the wiki owner's discretion. [20:35:29] hmm, I have never really pondered how fast file uploads are [20:35:40] presumably, it's reasonable, we use S3 [20:35:50] though it can cost a pretty penny [20:37:58] Transfer into S3 is free. [20:39:28] And even on the most expensive plan with over 500TB's of storage it is less than $0.50/gb [20:44:42] Ingress/egress/cost per GB isn't really an issue, the issue is the amount of GET requests, etc., that are made per month to retrieve objects, primarily for thumbnailing [20:45:40] for example, so far this month, WT has generated around 70M requests of that type [20:48:15] seems like you should be caching some of those requests [20:50:13] `/w/thumb.php` / `/w/thumb_handler.php` / static.wf.net direct requests are heavily cached for unregistered users but standard behavior applies for logged in hsers [20:50:41] but it seems the AWS extension makes a query every time a page is visited, regardless, but I have to look more into that [20:53:07] That doesn't make sense. If both main were cached and the images for logged out users then the request wouldn't hit the origin and no request would be made. [20:56:06] Anonymous requests don't hit origin very often, only registered user requests hit origin directly. Primarily, the biggest concern is logged in users who are bypassing the cache [20:56:47] there are some wikis which aren't necessarily rich in images but do use things like Math a lot which stores the output on static [20:56:47] And making 70m requests? [20:57:05] yeah [21:05:39] I would recommend taking a look at Cloudflare R2 [21:05:42] it's considerably cheaper [21:05:43] and very good [21:18:36] What category and focus/purpose would a wiki about a webcomic be? [21:29:49] I think Literature/Writing, Art & Architecture or Uncategoriezed would be all be fine [21:31:22] What about "The purpose of this wiki is..."? [21:31:46] [1/4] As for focus or purpose, what we're trying to understand is: [21:31:46] [2/4] * What is your wiki's topic? e.g. What is the comic it's based on [21:31:46] [3/4] * What are you hoping to do with your wiki? e.g. document the characters and locations of a particular franchise [21:31:47] [4/4] * What kinds of content do you plan to create on the wiki? e.g. pages covering character biographies, plots of specific issues, etc. [21:33:31] [1/2] The more we have to go on, the more we can make an informed decision on your request. [21:33:31] [2/2] Doesn't have to be a full essay or anything, but a few sentences that cover those points is usually sufficient. [21:36:58] 3 sentences is equivalent to how many words? Because one long sentence might provide more information than 3 short sentences [21:39:03] [1/2] The exact format doesn't matter, we aren't that explicitly prescriptive. The point is giving the reviewer enough information to make a decision. [21:39:03] [2/2] If you don't provide enough information it's not a big deal, the reviewer will ask for more. [21:48:22] Is this sufficient? "The HeartStone Destiny Wiki is a wiki focusing on the webcomic HeartStone Destiny. It is intended to document characters, locations, episodes, and other media pertaining to HeartStone Destiny." [21:57:41] looks fine [21:59:16] Would Fictional worldbuilding/constructed world wiki or None of the above work better? [22:18:04] Whatever you feel is most appropriate, it's for you, not for us, as that's how you'll show up on WikiDiscover [22:18:27] Example: https://meta.wikitide.org/wiki/Special:WikiDiscover
